Sooo that was a journey. I think we with this data we can come to the conclusion that it is indeed completely random as to what color piece u will get, and is not dependent on the color you are scrapping. This was only the case in the red items...which makes sense considering they are the most common piece to get. Of course, more trials would be appropriate to be sure.
Total spent: 2 million gold
Scrapped: 400 commons
I was able to combine my rare and epic pieces, to get.....a rare ballpark mortar annndddd an epic big torp!!! (scrapped rare right away, but the big torp is a keeper)
According to this experiment you will have the worst luck getting pieces with scrapping green commons, and the best luck with yellow.
In total i collected 25 pieces, so each piece was 80k....not worth it :/
Also notably no legendary parts, pieces, or cells :,( cant hit the gold mine everyday
