But he isn’t, he’s being matched against mainly mk5s with worse gear at ~2500. With his gear he should be able to carry those games easily, even with bad teammates.

@Major Major what is your ping? And could you post a picture of your inventory, so that we can see your ship stats.

Also, this might sound like a crazy question. But are you leading your shots? Is that something you know how to do?

I don’t mean to sound patronising, but it’s not really explained anywhere in the game, and it just occurred to me that if someone didn’t know about it (or missed the memo), then that might explain why they’re at 1200 infamy in a mk6.

I think here is the problem. You were at 2000 infamy when you moved to the mk6. 2000 infamy is still low for a mk5, and I would also say low for a L40 player. By moving to mk6, the matchmaking system started matching you against other mk6’s who would be of higher average infamy/skill than the players you were used to fighting in your Mk5.
I believe IMO that the matchmaking system places too high a weighting on ship level. We have players who are delaying upgrading ships due to the issue, and we also have players like Mayor Mayor who are losing significantly because they made the jump too soon. If the current weighting on ship level continues to be implemented, we need a minimum infamy level introducing (in addition to captain level) before ships can be upgraded. However, such a proposal would serve to further slow down an already slow progression timeline, so I’d rather see less weighting on ship level.

I feel it too.. The only competition in this game is how fast you can complete the guild quest, the battle itself is not a competition. No matter how hard you tried, when the matchmaking logic detected you have too many win in the battle you will have losing streaks, this is how matchmaking works. The devs "accidentally" created infamy range by our losing/winning streak, that makes very hard for you to jump from your infamy range. that's a fact, and that's hurt.

The devs has no intention to play with our emotions, it's impossible to accommodate all players want. I believe they're still working to give us the fair game.

    update:
just got the losing streak.. yes the matchmaking is like a shit. how come they can create a very nice game like this but failed to implement matchmaking?

Be careful what you ask for. As the #1 damage dealer, according to your screenshot, if the Devs do what you want, they would be throwing you into even tougher battles and/or weaker teammates to balance you out... Honestly I understand your situation. It's perpetually frustrating to be #1-2 in damage and/or kills in the vast majority of matches and get paired with teammates who don't pull their weight. which seems more common than not.

I never thought about ping. I checked and on WiFi I get about 55ms, but on cellular net I get about 110ms. I really only play on WiFi at home.
Yes I know how to lead a target, I'm actually pretty good at it since I have mostly long range weapons. At my Captain level, I have a lot of invisible upgrades that speed up projectiles which helps hitting distant targets, but you still have to lead just enough.
Here's my almost complete inventory, notice I swapped out my Epic rudder for an epic single shield, and swapped my L40 grenade for an L2o epic rocket launcher:
    IMG_5DE6653E165D-1.jpeg
There wasn't enough room on the screen to show everything. I also have a new L1 ballpark mortar, a spare Explosive cannon for future upgrades, and also an L10 Jingle Bel!s 2017. I figure that will never be upgradeable even if there's a 2018 Jingle Bells.

Anyway, I am rethinking the premise of my article. Most other players aren't TRYING to lose. Some are. But most of them are caught in the same trap I am. They're also new Mk6 ships and they're getting the crap beaten out of them. This explains one of my previous questions, how could anyone have an Mk6 ship with less than 100 infamy.

How do you have an MK6 with less than 1100 infamy? I have worse gear than you and I am 3000+ easily. There's only one real explanation to this........

Rockets could be a good compromise for the grenade. The thing I like most about grenade is being able to lob it over the corners of structures when there is no direct line of sight. Rockets can do this as well with much more distance. Especially with the perks you have on it. Start working Blastian if you haven't already.

My only problem with this loadout is that I don't have any decent short range weapons, which are particularly useful for Wayward Pains. The low ceilings make mortars and rockets mostly useless. I'd rather play my powerful carronade, but then, you never know when that map will come up.

Explosive cannon and sniper cannon are excellent short range weapons. The only other weapons that could be better are carronade and blast cannon.

Carronade did get a distance buff recently. This is exactly why I use a Blast however. In addition to the fact that I have received an endless stream of Rare Blasts from the RNG Gods.

That ship is really slow. When I’ve played against Eeyore, his shooter does about 1.4 I think, and it’s brutal, trying to stick with him (even as a speeder).

Are you able to switch any crew talents over to ‘all ships extra speed’? Or maybe try out a second turbo instead of the Small Shield to see how it feels. You’ll avoid much more mortar and torp damage, if you can tune your speed up a bit.

That's a really good suggestion. I recently went through my entire training tree and found an extra 450 HP by retraining... was a nice upgrade! Everyone needs to spend time each month reviewing their training tree.

I tried the second Rare Turbo but I moved all my perks to the Epic Turbo so to get a real boost in speed, I really need to fill the 3 empty perk slots. With the two turbos, I can keep up with a Speeder, I added it back and got a speed of 1.39. Unfortunately that just makes it easier to get too far ahead of the pack. I tried using it for some flanking attacks with little success. This is where shorter range weapons would be useful, but without higher shields, it's too risky.
I kind of like the Epic Rudder, it has some high level perks so it is really useful for dodging. I can run circles around other players leaving them in total confusion. It's also really useful for aiming, I don't see any reason to speed up the turret, I'd rather speed up the entire ship's turns.
I think I took every all-ships-speed-upgrade training possible, but I'll go back and look.

I was holding on to not blasting me anymore I've seen it will not, I've never seen such a ridiculous thing in my life as this "balancing" and ridiculous, if the player loses then has a motive, or he has a shitty performance , or the game only puts him in a useless team, more from what I'm seeing, it's not for his equipment, his skill, or anything else, and the drug of the game that decides, it pulls you up to 50% victory, he forces you to lose, how to play in the critical weapons, in the team, in everything, I played a battle and the blaster cannon of the speeder gave 2 critical times I was impressed, or sometimes that, even if you are all of yourself and one little more anyway you lose, in my opinion this matchmaking is badly broken, players who are bad, have reason, suicide, AFK, horrible equipment, do not accompany the team, so fix it.

That, is not how statistics work.
Miika's data includes MILLIONS of battles, from a noob still playing bots to Orpheus.
While you, on the other hand, have 4 cherry-picked battles just to try and prove your point.
You're kinda shooting yourself in the foot here.
