Gear score is a step towards proper matchmaking!

    Actually that's not true. Here I collected a list of base gear scores of all Mk levels. Just for clarity, every ship type has the same gear score for similar Mk level and captain level does not count towards the gear score at all.

    So we can see the difference between Mk7 and Mk6 is just 180 gear score which equals replacing few rare perks with epics.

    Those numbers aren't significantly scaled enough. 5k max for 100 infamy and then 200k max for 500 infamy.

    And
    Noooooo. Scale the max rewards based on infamy. But each person's in-game performance still decides their rewards. They just need to increase the rewards for higher infamy.

    I'm an engineer. I wouldn't be good at my job if I can't be wrong sometimes. ;)
    I do dislike the addition of gear score into the actual matchmaking now. I'd still like to see it used to prevent seal clubbing (which was my original suggestion). But if they want to leave the ship mk in the matchmaking formula, then they need to change that to be gear score instead of ship mk... although we all agree that it would be much better to just remove it completely.

    We might be just trying to patch the bridge so it doesn't collapse. Rebuilding it would be very difficult and expensive. If they are willing to swing for the fences, I think they have a chance to make this game exceptional. This game will not last forever without taking some huge swings (like changing the matchmaking back, completely revamping the scaled rewards, etc).

    This is NOT A MATCHMAKING COMPLAINT THREAD. Take that crap somewhere else.



    @Spinners71 I'm going to update the OP to be what I would consider the consensus solution. Lmk how it sounds.

    You basically posted links to other threads. Those are threads I haven't seen before (I don't read everything), but scanning the content, it looks interesting.
    I don't think posting links to other threads counts as "providing consensus solutions". I'd rather see you re-type what you think are the consensus solutions here, so I don't have to go read 15 pages of stuff in other threads and then try to guess which pieces of those threads you consider consensus for this thread.

    Basically, I'm just confused now -- plus we have lost what your original post said... :(
    Perhaps if I have time later this weekend I will type out what I would have thought should be consensus from this thread.

    And, at first glance, your spreadsheet needs some tweaking (-10% is way too harsh -- it's even worse than the -800 we have now). I'm thinking more like -40%, but I would want to get rid of %'s altogether. I think having Infamy floors based purely on Gear Score, not based on previously achieved Infamy values. I don't have any time today, otherwise I'd go into more details... Sorry...

    Frankly, ship mk in matching is better than gear scores.. Given that ship mk made me lose a lot(and you too). Gear score would just make things worse and consistently harder as you upgrade. While for current mk situation, i will progress as my gear improves (or at least i hope to).

    Spinners and maithan have convincing replies why not to include gear...

    By "consensus solution".. I mean that we want to remove ship Mk from matchmaking, scale rewards based on infamy (and still based on performance per game), and place a hard floor based on gear score (something lenient just to prevent seal clubbing). My spreadsheet is just an example, don't take it for gospel. It isn't a finished product because I couldn't get the EXPs finished. :( If I got those, I was going to publish it as a Google doc so that people could play around with whatever they felt the inputs should be. :)

    I agree. I don't want to include gear score or ship mk in matchmaking. But if that is not possible (if they devs don't want that), then why wouldn't we want to use the more accurate measure of strength (gear score) rather than the very inaccurate ship mk?? o_O I'd also add that it needs to be scaled down in weight from what it currently is now. Matches everybody based on infamy first and then balances the teams based on infamy and gear score. (of course this is moot if we can remove ship mk altogether).

    The accurate measure of strength is supposed to be infamy. If we are going to MK level and/or gear score for matchmaking, I'd vote we get rid of infamy.

    MK level is already considered by the MM

    I would be really happy if devs will include the gear score into MM equation, because it will make much more fun and sense to play against similar geared players and skills will decide the win or lose.

    In addition there were some topics about how hard for newcomers to play this game as they get matched with higher MK ships that are stacked at the low infamy. Gear score will help to solve this problem

    Gear scores a bit wierd though. 3 epic perks makes ur item look super good when really its a tier 3 rare. And how is one perk equal to one increase in mk.
    Still if i used perks instead of selling them, my gear score would increase by 1k
