Balancing Gear score changes

    Greetings Battlers!

    Today we would like to introduce new gear score changes to you!

    To give you a bit of background:
    Previously, perks gave a constant amount of gear score. This meant a perk was valued the same regardless of the level and the rarity of the item it was put into. Because perks usually give percentage based bonuses this created a disparity between increase in gear score and increase in the actual item power.

    Now, under the new formula, perks will be affecting gear score also by a percentage boost. This means, for example, +8% cannon damage perks will also give +8% gear score. This allows the GS numbers to reflect reality much more accurately!

    Q: Why did you make this change?
    A: Events use gear score as one of the parameters for determining players' overall power in matchmaking. By making gear score values more accurate it allows the matchmaker to create more balanced battles.

    Q: My perks are showing gear score of 0!
    A: Support for the new formula was added in 3.1.1 which is currently not a mandatory update yet. By updating your game client to 3.1.19930 you will see the values correctly. 3.1.19930 will became a mandatory update soon before the next event starts.

    Q: Why did my gear score drop?
    A: Previously, perks were overvalued in gear score relative to the power increase they gave. Because the gear score is now more accurate for perks, it results usually in a gear score drop as well.

    Q: Some players are still showing high gear score values in their player profiles, why is that?
    A: Gear score values in player profiles are refreshed when a player log off from the game. This means player profiles will show the old numbers until those players log in at least once.

    How does this effect level 50 captains getting in their mk 3 boats and competing (cheating) against level 20 captains in events?

    Can I ask what is the impact on gear score for perks which don't give a damage boost? For example:

    - Shield perks grant a fixed amount of HP or Def.
    - Overboost and Turbo increase duration / reduce cooldown respectively
    - Fixer perks which have a +%, reduced cooldown or the new event fixer perks impacting bolt and box.

    The canon damage example looks clear cut but how are others calculated?

    Awesome changes, now what's left is to balance out the gearscore value of weapons vs blue/yellow items. Right now a blast cannon gives the same gearscore as a standard shield, which is not accurate at all. Real life experience says weapons always gives more "value" throughout a match vs blue/yellow items of the same lvl and tier, so it needs to be adjusted.

    Hmmm, non-% perks seem to have a std value now, lower than before...not sure why range perk is counted as an x% increase in GS???

    % (speed boost, damage, range, cooldown etc.) perks add exactly same % to gs and stat, perks that add numbers (hp perks, duration perks etc.) add gs as number, but only low, epic hp perk for shield adds only 38 gs
    but
    crit chance (sniper, cannon, grenade) perks add number, damage to burning adds number, too

    Well it makes sense, doesn't it? 10% range on your T5E explosive cannon obviously matters more than 10% range on your T1 uncommon. If it were a static value, range perks would suck at low gear levels.

    The real question is why critical perks and burn perks have a static / straight value and not a percentage one.

    and why durarion perks for fire weapons add fixed ammount of gs? +1 sec is better at higher levels than at lower levels, isn't it?

    I see they are still massively undervaluing the gear score of legendary weapons.. that’s the main way people cheat they use legendary without perks to get matched lower

    That rare blast cannon has +12% fire damage perk which increases GS by 12% but the damage increase is not shown in the damage stat at all. Change it to a cannon damage perk and your damage goes up while the GS goes down making it much more close to the legendary one.

    BAD NEWS for warrior/master players
    GOOD NEWS for NML players dropping GS using non damage perks in max tier weapons in low MK ships

    NICE MOVE DEVs! for promoting gearscore manipulation to sealclub lower skilled players in warrior league during event.

    THERE MUST BE A LEAGUE LOCK-UP DURING THE EVENT
    NML noob GS dropper will still be matched against NM/ace players...
