Explosive canon vs railgun

by using the red slot you become a slower speeder with less blues lots and double shields/shield frost overboost

 

Sniper and explosive cannon is nice too

 

it really depends on your play style... playing as a shooter, i personally prefer the RG over EC because: 1) it can cancel shields with 1 hit regardless of damage (allowing me a small window to retaliate, very useful for 1v1 situations), 2) fast projectile speed makes it very accurate for killshots against speeders and enforcers, 3) it has unlimited range so if you're good from long distance it gives you huge guaranteed damage and 4) it's just so much sweeter to make killshot with an RG than an EC. if you're a shooter who uses incendiaries, EC will most likely be a better choice, but since i don't use incendiaries, i'll pick the RG.

But outside of the shooter, i'll take the EC over RG because: 1) has half the cooldown time of an RG 2) splash damage capability 3) you can combo it with incendiaries, 4) it's projectile arc allows you to shoot over waves and even boats sometimes, and 5) it is way better for close combat scenarios.
