Disagree, using R5 rudder and E5 lube, all turning/turret talents selected, and there's still a small percentage of yellow boats that can outrun my tracking in close range. I think I can get 5% more lube effect moving from rare to epic on my last perk, and just recently got my 4th epic rudder so I am starting to level that up. But I definitely need both those items to be able to track the high-end yellows up close. Could probably also do it with 2 of either lube/rudder but that doesn't save any slots.

My idea in this thread would make it viable to use turbo, rudder, and gear lube.

Awesome, thanks for having a sense of humor about my reply.
While I have “messed around” with rudder, I’ve never really tested it like I did with the lube. I reached a point where I ruled it out as a great option. I can’t exactly recall why, but I definitely found it less effective than lube. Had something to do with not wanting to “have” to turn the boat to rotate turret. I found it better to be able to control my boat heading “while” rotating turret. As I’ve mentioned before, my input should be considered in the light of my specific Defender rig.

Getting out of tricky situstions is an occupational hazard of driving a Defender. Being able to set a course to safety, while simultaneously bringing weapons to bear on a threat is very powerful.

Honestly, I think the reason it works so well for me is simply because it makes a Defender not have the limitations of a Defender. I cst h players off guard all day long. The faster the opponent, the more likely I am to be able to vaporize them.

I just scored a Legendary a Big Torp last night. I have surprised so many opponents today with a face full of 2k damage as they “snuck up into my blind spot” meet Mr. Happy!

Yeah, the rudder can be useful on any ship but not to the degree of usefulness that a speeder or fixer can get from it (the only 2 ships I really have experience using it with). It's definitely a preference thing.
