You were pulled into that game because the matchmaking algorithm is doing what its been told to do, "balance" the infamy level of the 2 sides. Which, on paper if you look at the team over strength of both teams, it has.

However... and this happens all the time in ace1, "balance" <> "fun" especially for the low infamy player, because as you state, you were over 1k lower than the highest player which when you think about what Rovio recently did with seal clubbing measures (stopped rewards for > 800 inf drops) is legalised seal clubbing.

Matchmaking is broke and while Rovio dont want long queues for their whales or dev team - nothing will be done about it.

First thing, you won't be able to do good in the lower infamy matches.
I reached about 500 infamy with MK1 ship. I got mainly MK1 ships, but rarely MK2 ships. Then I reached about 700 with MK2. I thought that I'd punch lots of ships at 350 infamy. But strangely, I now got mostly MK2 and MK3 ships. Winning a match was still difficult.

Now, I got into MastersII league. But infamy dropped to 1100. Now I see most players with a blue strip (masters league). Earlier when I was in lower warrior league, I saw most players with green strips.

So, what I want to say is that matchmaking is good. Like, I saw MK5 speeder at about 1300 infamy, and it was very "easy" to sink. MK5 speeder at this low infamy level didn't hurt the game.

The most difficult part about matchmaking is the human factor: that how the other team show the teamwork: what route the first person takes, and how you go: in a group or alone. It is quite variable and there's no algorithm that can do something to gauge which route you take in an area, and then do some calculations on it. It is IMPOSSIBLE.
