I feel your pain! I'm struggling after level 10 to make it in a match now. The event it good because your are matched against ships of your calibre. I don't know why they can't implement that matchmaking to the normal battles.

It really makes the game not fun.

Oh boy. This game is really really good for beginners but the matchmaking causes u to fight high level players.Did I notice that you have almost the same infamy like all the remaining 9 players? That's why you get killed with one shot.My regrets for you buddy.:(:(:(

Because it removes all measurement of skill. Would it be fun to be matched up with significantly higher skill or significantly lower skilled players just because you run the same boats?

No offense, but that's a pretty bad reply. Mk2 vs. Mk5 getting one shotted or two shotted. Whatt skill can I display by hiding and throwing a few morts or sneaking a cannon shot out before being vaped. I do manage to stay alive for a few, but I can't support my team as well as I should/want with the weak weapons I have.
I played this game long ago and the start for new players was not nearly as harsh. The current system of having 800 infamy at level 10 with a crap mk2 against heavy and hard mk5 is no way to enrich your player base.

Yep, having not played the low levels recently, but having read about this lvl 10 b.s. many times recently, I can’t wrap my head around why it’s like that, maybe it was just to help protect players under lvl 10?

The issue is these mk5s why are they there? Are they sealclubbing? The best answer I can figure is that the devs don’t see any foul play from them, which means they have so little skill they can’t gain infamy. I can’t fathom someone having that little skill though. Maybe we could get a dev response to this as I am curious myself and the worst thing for a game isn’t players leaving, it’s players not joining from a bad early game.

Aren't the traditional 5v5 based off infamy? I enjoy a good fight but jfc, not the bull that it is now.
I'll keep grinding because I know the game gets better as you get stronger, but it really is a turn off to hide most of the match.

The event was great, ships evenly matched and a chance for eveyone... that is where the skill comes in, landing those shots. There is no skill in a mk5 one shotting an mk2.

Would be nice to hear from a dev on why they put such a harsh change in. Hoping I'll coin? Nope!

not to be salty, but i been playing 15000games under 1300 infamy, and i watch replays alot. the truth is that over 80% players under 1300 are tankers, every game theres are more then 4 players suicide. some of them u can tell, but these days they getting smarter. no more suicido speeder, but smart suicido shooters. i know people might not believe what i just siad, im jist saying what i saw. i been posting why people chose to tank, but mo body cares.

See, if they implemented a matchmaking system that used imfamy as a base, but used gear score as a secondary factor, matchmaking could be improved a thousand fold. Would that mean longer waiting times? Yes, more than likely. Does not EVERY other PvP game have a longer waiting time than we have here? Yes they do. Do people still play those games? YES. I personally would accept a longer waiting time for a better match up. I think the Devs need to take this under serious consideration. It would make the playing field much more fair. Would keep many more new players on, and would improve the overall satisfaction of the player base... I'm not saying use a tight gear score alogorythm, bit surely it could be coded into the matchmaking alogorythm to even up the matched even more, without having a huge detrimental impact on the queue times

I think most mk5/6 down there are good players, it's just that they are unable to climb due to the ship Mk matchups.

I had someone in my guild who was a great fighter in his mk4 shooter. As soon as he upgraded to mk5 he was being matched with other Mk5's and could not rise, despite his best efforts.

All in all I think much of the infamy 'tanking' you see is caused by the ship Mk matching algorithm. Back at global launch, before this was implemented I saw little to non in regards to tankers. If I saw a mk4 at 300 it was because he/she was genuinely that bad.

My advice to all new players would be to search this forum for a series of posts by @Snapshot called Noob to Noob.

There were several of them which he wrote during his own time as a noob at the game himself (whereas most tips/strategy threads are written by experienced captains but often things that are relevant at high levels aren’t relevant at low levels).

Here’s a link to the titles of his posts so that you can search for them more easily

My copypasta from several months ago...

"The infamy reset affects all players and most importantly, the new players are affected the most.

I finished 700th in nightmare with infamy around 4300. Let's say that all 700 players above me also had 4400 infamy, but they all also finished 100 points below their maximum rank at 4300 infamy. So all 700 players lost 300 infamy at reset. That is 210,000 infamy points erased at reset (in actuality many players have over 5,000 infamy so this number is VERY conservative).

The only way infamy is generated in this game is in bot battles at low infamy. One player plays a bot battle and gains 24 infamy points. In order to make up the infamy lost at reset, there must be 8,750 bot battle games won (210,000/24 in this conservative example).

So all these nightmare players reset to 4k infamy. You notice these strong players fighting in Ace 1 league levels. There is immense pressure from these guys to steal your infamy to climb back up above 5k. What happens? This downward pressure pushes the Ace 1 players into Ace 2, Ace 2 players into Ace 3, Ace 3 players into Master 1... and so on.

There is a delayed ripple driving MK5 and MK6 players to lower and lower infamy levels and you see this when new players complain about being MK1 or MK2 and facing MK5 and MK6 ships. These ships are down there trying to steal infamy from the new players who were just facing bots so that the bot generated infamy points can be propagated all the way back up the chain to the Nightmare league.

Repeat every week and you'll see the low Warrior leagues getting stronger and stronger. These poor new players are thrown into a sea of sharks."

When this post was originally written, it was addressing MK2 and MK3 players were being pitted against MK4 and MK5. Today, we see this MK1 player facing MK4 through MK6 players.

It's only going to get worse.
