He did give you a detailed overview first in his defence, see here: https://forum.battlebay.net/threads/please-help-me.16038/#post-93523

Most of it was good advice, apart from Big Torps are a wasted slot.
My fave weapon by far and have done 16K in a MK4 speeder with a T3 Rare Big Torp and a T3 Rare BC.

Also when you are up against multiples they often group and the torp can simultaneously destroy 2-3 ships with a single shot.

To be fair, you're talking about a Speeder and he's got a shooter. In my experience the shooters simply don't have the maneuverability to get into a favorable position with any reliability. The vast majority of big torps go sailing on by as I hammer them with my cannons. They have to hit one torp for 3 of my cannons and it just doesn't work out even remotely close to that... not when it matters. They get most of their damage from long distance random luck. Regarding speeders, at my infamy there aren't many who can use it well. But yes, a speeder who knows how to use a big torp is terrifying.

And, of course, we're talking about low infamies here. I'm certain the situation varies in lots of ways at higher infamies and boat marks.

How long have u been playing as I have never seen someone get to mk5 in like a month- it took my 5 months just to get there and get a legendary weapon. Also what are ur tips on carronade. Any at all. I do 8k damage as speeder 1500 infamy consistently yet I always lose. I suspect its because I dont know what to do so end up being the last one on my team dealing lucky damage then dying.

I don't remember exactly but not very long by old-timer standards -- maybe mid-December-ish?. I'm not M5. I'm currently M4, level 26. I have no legendary weapons or anything even close to that. I'm running mostly R25-ish gear. You're well ahead of me in this game it seems like. I have no idea how to use a carronade. It seems like a speeder weapon but I haven't developed my speeder yet. I could only comment on this guy's position with any knowledge because he's an M3 shooter and I was just there myself. I fight in his same infamy leagues.

My guess is that you're right in that problem you're describing has more to do with "Not knowing what to do". I'm slowly figuring that out myself. So here's what I wish you would be doing if you were on my team (just food for thought from a shooter perspective).

Before combat I want you to be my eyes and ears. My initial salvo is likely to be a LOT more deadly if I have targets before they do. There's nothing quite like starting the match with their healer at half health and their team in disarray. Very few speeders do this and I see it as a huge missed opportunity.

During combat I want you to be the lethal knife blade that slips in for the kill... turning the slugfest I'm engaged in into an easy kill then moving on to the next. This is where that big torp of yours, when wielded well, absolutely rocks. Rest assured I will absolutely cheer you on for your "kill stealing" :)

When your bored waiting for your next assassination I wish you were being a bright yellow distraction sucking enemy rounds into the waves and drawing their attention away from the shooters and generally being unhurt but really annoying. A team of two shooters (assuming reasonable equipment) can blow down an unfriend in a few seconds if they are not being countered. If I'm approaching a +1 enemy shooter and I get a round in first because he's looking at you, you've probably killed the guy already. By the time he finds me I'll be into my second weapons cycle, he's down a 1000 points of damage or more, and he's out of position and on the defensive. Do loiter around for that big torp moment though :)

By far the most impressive thing I've seen speeders do is effectively throw a tesla shield over our whole team by dancing and distracting. Speeders who can do this add a ton to the chances of a team win. One guy was an M1 speeder in among M3 and M4 boats. That guy did virtually no damage but absolutely won the match for us. He was among the unfriends early and I swear he must've been shaping the matrix to avoid so many shots. The unfriends were all so enthralled with him that they didn't notice our shooters pull up and start unloading. It was destruct 9 and they died without even making it much beyond their little "starting line" at the spawn.

One speeder was an absolute surgeon with those big torps. It seemed like every time I got into a slugfest and we were chipping away at each other suddenly *BAM* and that battle was over. What impressed me as much as his accuracy was his timing. He chose to assist in existing battles and waited for the moment when his torpedo would hit and be decisive. It wasn't always a clean kill. Sometimes it'st he torp followed by *Bzzzt* and now he's stunned. He was also good at sizing things up. He didn't linger if it was just some mop-up. He let me do that with my fast cycling cannons while he scooted off to find his next victim. Basically, he was adding his throw weight to existing dog fights and turning the tide one by one. Awesome!

All of this is of course appropriate to my infamy levels... say 600 when questing up to about 1200 when actually playing to win with my real gear. At later levels the tesla/blast/flare combo seems to turn speeders into solo killers quite handily. Out of curiosity, what do you wish your shooters were doing? What's the speeder perspective?

Well, first off, with our two guns, what we need is a shooter who knows his targets. A shooter who can understand whom to shoot without us commanding him. When the match begins, we go out and draw fire. At that time, we need a shooter who's waiting in the back with a sniper cannon scoped in, so that when we get seen, the enemy team is confused as to whom to shoot, and the shooter can get off a shot.

We need shooters to NOT be salty and be like, "What's this dude doing? That's suicide!", but see through our strat. Maybe we're kiting that fixer shooter duo, leaving their entire team open for your attacks. See the opening, and exploit it.

We also want a shooter to know, don't waste a railgun shot on someone with 100- health, if they're burning, or if there's other teammates on their tail. You're firing a veeery powerful bullet to achieve veeery little. Avoid that.

I think the overview of what you're talking about is the mirror opposite of what I said. I'm praying for a speeder to make exactly the moment you're praying for me to take advantage of -- I have eyes on the enemy and they're not looking at me. Time to fire up all those gun tubes and get busy :) THAT usually draws the attention back to me pretty quickly which leaves the speeder free to harass the poor guy from the rear. Or if the speeder is good, big torp him :) In a sense that's how I view speeders. I don't see them as damage sources so much as the creators of chaos and confusion... my moment to strike. As you say, that requires partnership between the speeder and shooter. Keeping this in mind I just followed a scouting speeder in more aggressively than I usually do. It didn't pay out that time but at least he wasn't all alone out there.

You seem to have a good understanding on the whole.
Although you mentioned you attempted to follow a speeder which didnt pay off, this will happen 90% of the time, dont follow the speeders directly.
If a speeder runs into a full army of 5, they can stun one, turn on a penny and nitro / overboost out of there, at which time you will be backing up or turning slowly and getting peppered with cannons and mortar fire.

Shooters are best sticking together to support each other, and are stronger with a decent fixer tucked away healing them.
The amount of shooters who will have 4 team mates approach one side of the map, but feel they are strong enough to go it alone and end up dead within the first minute of the battle.
Also as shooters do not have speed / agility like the yellow boats, their accuracy has to be second to none as this is their strong point.
The other day we were left with a 1 on 1, our shooter had 1800 health, and their shooter had 300, thought we had it in the bag.
Our shooter missed all 3 of his shots, and their shooter missed none, meaning game over for us and the win for them.

Thanks. I agree on almost all counts.

The "didn't pan out" thing wasn't my fault. The speeder had gone into an AWFUL place (for everyone else) on crash & burn. They followed him to his doom. The match before THAT is where i learned the lesson about "follow at support range" not "follow closely" :)

That advice from @antisnipe was excellent advice and since then both myself and several speeders have benefited from it. If the speeder is doing his job I need to be there to capitalize on it rather than on the other side of the map tossing whatever.

The part I disagree with is your assessment of shooter meta. Yes, I know the meta is to load out on mortars and big armor and to cower in the back lobbing mortars. I play a brawler and I get in there and mix it up... even when I'm outclassed. The trick is all about picking the moment which is what the speeder helps create for me. I plan on challenging the existing shooter meta. I have no idea if it'll be successful in later infamies but it demonstrably works now -- even when outclassed by a lot of levels -- if I do it perfectly.

Sorry but I am not sure what I said you disagree with?

I never mentioned the meta was to hide and lob mortars, to be honest these are not the shooters I enjoy playing with.

Shooters should get stuck in, but they work best in a pack so they can focus fire and take down an enemy quickly.

Possibly I misunderstood you. There may be differences in viewpoint as a result of level/infamy also.

I play my shooter an awful lot like a speeder with the obvious trade-offs. I need a much better exit strategy than the speeder. I have a lot more punch to seal the deal. You seem to be suggesting this is sub-optimal. Actual game results suggest otherwise. It may or may not work for most people but the leader board speaks for itself in terms of my play.

    Snapple's new shooter meta: The Shooter/speeder :)
