    A couple of things:

    1. What exactly does “smart targeting” do? I currently have it off, and I was in the long corridor in Wayward Pains, an unfriend *directly* in front of me in the corridor, against the wall, and the auto target cycled through 2 unfriends in the distance, on the other side of several walls, NOT TARGETING the ship directly in front of me. Would having “smart targeting” selected avoided this situation?

    2. I play Defender. An unfriend was bobbing in front of me, immobile, presumably disconnected, maybe 5 clicks away, gentle waves. I fire my flare gun and the projectile goes whistling over the turret, missing their shooter. I’ve heard of other people with this issue, and I’ve noticed sometimes the crosshairs will nestle at the top of the target instead of in the middle. I assu,e this is a glitch? If so, can it be fixed please?

Many thanks in advance for any comments / information.

    1. Yes, smart targeting would have solved that particular problem; however it has its own suite of problems, due to which the option to disable it was added into the game. I play with smart targeting off, because I'm a target lock spammer, and HATE it when anything other than a simple right-to-left switch happens when I press the left button to cycle targets. If you work more often with target lock, but also have a tendency to keep it on sometimes, I suggest you check the smart targeting, but not the option that comes after it. That option causes a few issues I'll not go into detail here about:DIf you play with no target lock, check ALL of the three options.

    2. I've heard rumors about this glitch, there's a forum post about it as well, by @Ænima ma if I remember correctly. I'll have to ask a dev about this:)
    Edit: Yup, here's the thread:

P.S. About the thing you said for the reticle aiming above the target, could you tell me what your "Predictive Vertical Aiming" option is set to? And could you toggle it and recheck if the problem persists?

    0. Thanks!

    1. So smart targeting goes to the “best” target, not necessarily the direction your camera is looking, right? I think that’s why it had it off in the first place. Why would it have helped me in this particular situation? I ride the target lock pretty hard... would recommend leaving smart targeting on? Why?

    2. Predictive vertical aiming is on. It’s hard to test the part with the crosshairs nestling above cause it doesn’t happen that often, but when it does, it’s definitely noticeable. And didn’t seem to happen when my flare went above the target.

Yeah... Something's gone a little screwy with the aiming. But I can't quite put my finger on it though

Predictive vehicle vertical aiming sometimes make close carronade shots go over. It is suppose to help adjust for waves. I turn mine off.

    Bingo.

Explains why I was able to brawl well when I took my mk5 defender out in the previous event. I have it off to!

@Will-o-the-Wisp you should try that. Maybe it'll work

What is the benefit of predictive vertical aiming? I.E. What exactly does it do to compensate for waves?

It compensates for waves and forward-backward motion(to a point)

Okay, thanks. I’ll try turning it off. It seems like a lot of people don’t like it?

Would predictive vertical aim help for example if you are sailing up a wave, with the unfriend at the crest?

This is interesting, I also run a carronade and have had some success shooting over waves at opponents with it. Do you know if turning off the vertical predictive aiming will make this more difficult?

That's what it's designed with in mind. Really removes some of the skill from the equation of you ask me. But makes sniper cannons better, because they couldn't vert-lead worth a damn pre-update.

It probably will, since carro is kinda low-arc if you're at semi-midrange

Cool, thanks. Just wanted an excuse for every shot I’ve missed, ever. I’ll turn it off and see how it goes.

Predict vertical aiming is usefull for slow projectile weapons like explosive cannon
When the wave is strong and when the enemy is behind the wave
