Should I use mortars on shooter?

so right now my shooter setup ( events only) is as follows:

Rare T3 blast cannon ( deals 607 damage - RNG - defense)
Epic T2 ex cannon ( somewhere around the 550 mark)
Lv 12 flare gun (epic) ( 33 damage)
Level 11 rare swift torp/ level 2 epic railgun ( 341 for the torp and 366 for the rail)

Level 23 uncommon shield ( with +100 HP, around 460 in HP)
Level 28 rare turbo ( +40%)

Mk4 shooter


Right now I don't have mortars, but should I just buy a rare, level it up, ad use it, if so, which one?

 

If u wish to use mortars,then try Ballpark mortar.Its enormous radius will help u all the time.The balanced one of all mortars.

 

depends on your playstyle
they're hard to use but are also rewarding when you master them
if you don't have any mortar related skills (ability to lead mortar projectiles) then I would advice using uncommon mortar to practice so you will know whether you want to use them further or not

• LRM is for "snipers"-shooters with mostly long range/mid range weapons
• standard-meh, it's not bad but also not good at anything, not good damage nor range neither radius
• big berta-usefull at mid/minimal range because of it's slow projectile and ability to inflict insane damage when direct/almost direct hit occurs
• balpark-imo awesome control weapon, it's big radius is awesome for controling movement

 

I'll give ballpark a go but I'll have to use rare so I'm not a complete hindrance to my team

 

Once Brock finishes training though because I have a few talents that I need to switch around ( yay, only have to wait until noon tomorrow! Complete silliness that we can't stop the training, do some retraining, then continue the training! Yay!)

Meh, I'll only use one mortar. Morrtar spamming isn't my thing.

I guess I'm just a " gimme something that requires skill" kinda guy

 

Then you should use torps

 

you are a speeder user, aren't you?
if yes, then try frost+torp speeder, that's "something that requires skill"

 

Mortars are a good complimentary weapon to other mortars and torpedos.

 

Frost died in 2017 dude.

Besides I don't have enough money to buy a rare anymore, and I'm saving up for MK5

 

Mortar?
just use grenade. Easy to hit than mortar and higher damage lol. It's an insane game design.
Grenade can be used in more diverse situations than mortar(ex damage depot, fighter house, way ward pains...)
And grenade range is also insane. 20 with event perk. It's almost canons lol.
There is no reason to use mortar instead of a grenade.
And std mortar is worst.
Mortars need a height change that is at least enough to be used in caves.
And need some big options of event perk(ex stun chance, projectile speed, some damage boosts...)
There's a reason why rankers dont use it. Only use for guild quests lol.

I use it, met like 4 frost+torp speeders today
and one of the best speeders in the bay use(d) it-these replays are from February, March and April

 

Aren't you the guy from my thread asking about mortars a month or so back who confidently stated that mortars were totally pointless because turbos made everyone way too fast?

 

Your assessments are spot on... I'll add my 2 cents

Standard Mortar - Not recommended, as it doesn't excel at anything. I have a Legendary one, and keep getting disappointed.
Ballpark - I'm still not convinced because of its very low damage... but I keep hearing positives about it so maybe I should try it?
Big Berta - I want to like it, but it's so slow it's easy to outrun. I don't know whether it's worth the effort to build.
LRM - The only one I use, though only occasionally. Sniper mortar is a perfect description but unlike Sniper is useless up close.

 

Build rares all you want but I wouldn't waste epic parts/cells on one..

Early to mid game: LRMs were my favorite weapon. Big Berta was my first legendary so that seemed awesome for a time too.

But ... endgame: Mortars are rare in nightmare because they're either too low damage or too hard to hit when everyone is capped on speed. You'll see a few enforcers making ballpark work or speeders with frost/Big Berta .. but there are better alternatives.

Fire Bomb spam is overpowered with it's yolo blast radius (that can hit you for 20 seconds outside the circle) .. so that's not a waste of epic parts/cells. Plus it gives you an extra star (often by taking a star from teammates) if you're burning targets that teammates are shooting at.

... Not that I want more fire bomb spammers in the game, but it works.

 

Try long range mortar once. Forget enormous range, it always hits the target. I guess its projectile speed is high.
Try it once. It's better than Ballspark. It has higher damage and it always hits.
