I've been seeing a noticeable dropoff in interest toward the end of a rivalry, and have been trying to come up with reasons for this. I think I have the answer.

At the beginning of a rivalry players love to complete quests...jumping on right away, completing the first board in an hour, second board 7 hours later, and then the grind sets in. The minutes or hours to complete a board, or a quest, turns into days. I think it would make more sense to make all quests in all boards as easy to complete as Medium, if not closer to Hard. Adjusting the tokens and trophies so that they are given out at the same rate over the entire rivalry would make sense.

For example, 700k trophies and 114k tokens are given for the first 4 boards, plus 48k bonus tokens totaling 48 quests, a fairly reasonable completion rate for higher level guilds. A 1 week rivalry might see 285 medium-length quests completed, each quest can be scaled to be worth 400 tokens, and 2400 trophies, and each board 2000 bonus tokens which would neither be an increase nor decrease in the current rewards over the course of the week.

The result would make more exciting end of rivalry activity as players can see more rapid quest completion, and quest counts are changing by the minute. Boosts would be just as important, and may even prompt an increase in use. Currently there's no joy in grinding out a days long quest like Napalm or Mine toward the end of a rivalry, but this would fix it, shortening the frustrating quests. Because most guilds have a good idea where they will finish, and because last minute quest completion rate is extremely low, the excitement that should be at the end of a rivalry doesn't come close to what we have at the beginning. As a result players may just blow it off, waiting for the next day when things are exciting for a few hours, particularly when there's no chance at placing in the top 3. Why not harness that energy for the entire rivalry?

Surprised there's no feedback on this. More = better? I'd bet the Devs have stats that backup my assertion of behavior.

Heh, I notice the same thing but every quest is an awful grind for me... even the easy board ones unless they happen to involve a speeder, flare, or blast cannon. Grinding my way through all the other ones is just tedious. Every one is done the hard way... solo and with the wrong ships/weapons.

That being said, for me at least they serve their purpose. They motivate me to play a bit more if it's possible to complete a quest or a board. But they don't dominate my game play thinking.

Maybe on the last day of a rivalry there is an event that gives double progress to the quests to relive stress and give a boost to those who want to help. This idea also has drawbacks

Last day boosts won't help the fact that each quest takes days to complete. Players want to see completions, and will stretch their sessions to get a completion. What becomes the grind is to have to equip a weapon that you don't even like to finish a quest, and have to do that for days. The new system which credits any damage to any damage quest is an improvement, but 10x contribution is almost always better. Shorter intervals of this would be better, and knocking out a bunch of quests the last day is much better than grinding out 1 or 2 Mine or Napalm quests.

My entire guild seems to be getting quest fatigue with these multi-day quests. Anyone else having the same issue?

Our guild is experiencing some at the moment, we've hit the hard board and have stalled but may well just be personal matters to resolve for the gang.

From a selfish point of view I'd be happy to explore a variant way of guild questing as per your post. For smaller guilds who don't have dedicated / hard-core players it gets difficult and tedious to try and there's a cut off point where you know just not to try anymore.

I'd like to adopt your board idea of medium quests and add a bit to it in the form of a static board. Rather than cycling a new board after completing the 12 quests, just keep the quests cycling everytime you complete one, kinda like how it works when you have a personal quest in reserve and give each quest a fixed value for trophies/tokens.
    • For a VIP player you get to maximise that benefit
    • More likely to benefit from rewards and will encourage more dedicated play.
    • You will actually get a sense of keeping what you earn.

I like this idea... it would also allow guilds to skip over quests that aren't great for them as there will always be 11 other quests to choose from at any point in time.

Oh yes, board 5+ is brutal for guilds that doesnt buy unlimited boosts. If only we had a more flexible way of swapping talents so using that Standard Cannon for half my week wasnt as useless as it is now.

We try to agree on rivalry ambitions early during the week, giving us atleast 5 days of ‘do whatever you want aslong as we complete 48’ atleast 2 out of every 3 weeks. Helps to alliviate the stress.

The quest difficulty increases too fast. Each board seems to increase the difficulty by a factor of 10. That’s just too much.

We stalled out half way through the easy board this week. It was all torps and none of us, apparently, are torp users. Usually I just bull through such things but "quest fatigue" is a good way to put it. Also, I haven't been playing due to the infamy reset timing.

I feel too, guild quests getting bored or many don’t play a lot any more. I had to replace many members in last weeks as they don’t simply suddenly play any more.

We are having the same issue with long time guild members inexplicably not playing lately. The new rivalry matchup system has definitely impacted participation levels because the rewards have tanked.

This was our worst questing week since before the change. Our board 4 had mines, trip torp, standard mortar, ballpark mortar, long range mortar and all mortars. Lots of stuff that we don't use. So instead of all of us sacrificing our infamy (many of us are pushing towards nightmare), we just bailed on this board. Really felt bad. We are matched with Tea Party and they didn't even complete this board. Only 1 team did.
