So I currently have 2x epic railguns. At first I thought this was awesome, as I've always loved high damage, high risk/high reward weapons in games and it means I can evolve it to T2.
However due to the wave mechanics in this game, I find that point weapons are almost ONLY usefull in close(ish) quarter combat. I find it VERY rare to have a clear shot come up using the railgun unless I'm very close to my enemy, which is worse because then I can get grouped on, and also start losing damage due to railguns minimum range mechanic.

Anyone got any advice for making the most of my railgun? I already try to stay at medium/long distance, I'm not bad at leading shots, and I try to wait till I'm at the peak of a wave to find a clear shot, yet even on wave peaks you don't seem to have enough height to line up a clear shot.

My standard loudout was: 1x Big torpedo, 1x Sniper Cannon, 1x Cannon.
I wanted to make use of my 5th red point in my mk3 Shoorter so I changed to : 1x Sniper Cannon, 1x Railgun, 1x Big Berta. This build can SOMETIMES be devastating, however the main point of failure seems to be the railgun being so unreliable. I get that it's high risk, high damage, high cooldown weapon, but the fact is due to the waves, you don't even have a chance to fire the weapon.

Rail gun is the the only weapon in the game to have indefinite range, the long cool down and the straight projectile are there to keep it balanced with other weapons.
If you want to master it, I would advise you to practice a lot with a sniper cannon 1st as it's projectile is almost straight as well as covering long distance at about the same projectile speed.
Practice snipping at further range and leading a snipe shot to hit a boosted speeder far away successfully and you are ready to try with a rail gun.

Hi! I got a similar build with you, although I stopped using the railgun already since it doesn't fit with my set up; I'm planning to use it once again I get MK4. I use a T2 epic bertha, T2 rare long range mortar and a T2 rare standard cannon, which used to be where my epic railgun was. And yes it was fun to use since I usually blow people up in a single combo.

First I'd suggest if you're going to go use that build, I think you should keep the standard cannon instead of the sniper cannon since youd get hunted down by speeders easily. Secondly, you can try to practice first with a sniper cannon so you can aim well with you railgun. Third, I used to wait for my enemies to peak at the wave while charging towards the peak on the closest wave on me. I used to hit 2 out 3 shots I make using this technique. Just make sure that the wave that peaks below the enemy ship is advancing (meaning behind him) towards it, not past by it. Its hard to explain but its easy to do once you get the hang of it.

    Hope that helps, cheers!

I used tp main a rail gun and found it to be one of the most fun guns in the game. Honestly it just takes skill bud; don't shoot if there is a wabe in your way lol. I have no complaints with the weapon, but it takes practice :)

Like I said above, I feel I am quite proficient with the sniper cannon. It has been my main weapon for the entirety of my BB career. Was my first rare and first epic item.

I think I just have to work more on my positioning and wave management like some of you have suggested, and the obvious: practice, practice, practice!!

Sniper, Railgun, Explosive Cannon is my mk3 setup. Epic Railgun lvl 10 with 10% damage from Buzzkill crew and a 3%perk puts it at 555 damage.
Im very aggressive and generally hunt enemies at the explosive cannon range of 25ish. At this range the railgun hits at 100%, it's easy to land a hit, and very deadly.

The combo puts out 1200 damage on a cycle if the sniper doesn't crit. As a shooter I put myself in the front line but try to take cover for the reloads. I average 3-4k damage and I'm usually at the top. Not bad for a mk3 shooter at 1200 infamy I think. :)

    My guns:
Rare sniper lvl 20- 15% crit from perks
    Uncommon Explosive Cannon lvl 10
    Epic Railgun lvl 10

    Gl!
