New defensive items

Most people can agree that the defender is currently underpowered compared to all other ships (especially enforcers and shooters). And I have an idea that can help bring back defenders: what if defenders actually defended? Imagine if defenders could actually defended their teammates; this would make defenders more valuable to have as alies. So my idea is:

Remove one red slot and two red slot points. Remove one blue slot, but keep slot points. Replace those two slots with new violet items, two slots and three slot points.
Violet items are defender exclusive items like green ones are to fixers. Some ideas are

-Phalanx: One slot point. Increases defense of everyone in radius by x amount for 8 seconds and yours for half the amount. Cooldown 13 seconds.

-Immortality Beam: Two slot points. Shoots a straight projectile and friendly target becomes invunerable for x amount of seconds (should be short). Cooldown 16 seconds.

-Shield Point Launcher: Two slot points. Launches a shield which friends can collect and gain x amount of shield points (new health bar that cannot be recovered by any fixing items and is capped at 15% of max health). Cooldown 14 seconds.

-Self Shield: One slot point. Increases your own defense by x amount (more than Phalanx) for 10 seconds. Cooldown 19 seconds.

What do you think about my ideas?

Defender is a blue item ship. So that idea of violet items should be a new ship's mechanic. Defenders needs a blue item buff not a new mechanic but i love your ideas and i would see them in the game

 

What if the colors change, or would that cause too much confusion?

 

Game needs a walking castle defender shouldn't change.

 

Maybe the Defender should be renamed to "Charger" or something, get some base stat increases, and add a new violet Defender that has less blues and more violets to protect teammates. Only that would cause too much change.

 

Yeah that would work i guess.

 

What if blue items were removed from the game and ship stats were upgraded in the same manner as items (using parts and sugar)? Then new blue items could then be defensive items for the defender to use, and of course boast larger hp gain from upgrading and higher defense. Any existing blue items will be exchanged for coupons that can be used in place of parts for stat upgrades to compensate.

 

Man, new color of items will become the death of f2p players. Instead just buff defence and stuff.

 

I wouldn't remove any red item or points, just blue ones. If defenders got actual defense capabilities, they have to take a HP hit (by losing blue slots and points) because noone wants to see a 19k HP ship that also shields. The current amount of HP defenders can get is only tolerable because it's all they have.
