Why do I get put in 2500 infamy battles, when I am at 1500, simply because I have a Mk7 level shooter?

Screenshots would probably help us out a bit more... But in my opinion, Mk7 boats should be nowhere near 2k infamy.

When you upgrade all weapons, so you can be a good quest mate, instead of your 5 favorite weapons only like many of you do, you get to mk7 without lots of level 50 epic weapons.

    Does it really matter?
I guess it's because the matchmaking system is trying to balance battles by infamy and ship Mk
because your infamy is lower than infamy of most of players with similar ship Mk, you're getting higher infamy opponents, you would probably face same opponents even when you were above 2k infamy

edit: it's not about maxed epics, I have weaker items than than you have, worse crew crew training and lower ship Mk (I have only mk5) and I am almost at 2k infamy

Surely if you have a lot of maxed epics, then you should be a LOT higher in infamy?!

If you look at his screenshot he has 3 epic items, which are blue and none are past T4. He's even using a common item.

3 big Berthas/4 mortars? Maybe balancing your weapons choices will get your infamy up and in line with with your rivals and none of this will seem so strange to you any more. I’m sure you were working on a guild quest, but you’ve gotta win for the points to count anyway, so better to make yourself more able to help your team win in multiple situations by having a variety of weapons types in my opinion.

Seems a little silly matching someone to 2500 infamy when he's 1500 and has lower gear score.
Sure mk6 gives him more health and more weapons but when you have 5000 gear score and the other has 11000 you're no match for him even if you're mk6 and hes mk4

Yeah, I had Mortors for a team quest.

Max infamy was 2,200; but difference in weapons nocked me down. Still growing epic weapons, but slow.

Not being able to use Shooter is frustrating.

Running multiple copies of the same weapons for guild quests is admirable, but usually seriously hampers your boat and therefore your chance of winning.

If (say) you were a sniper specialist, then I’d say it’s ok to run multiple snipers, but unless you’re fleeting with someone with a frost launcher then triple big berta’s are not a good idea (they’re just not a good enough weapon) and will seriously harm your chance of winning, and result in lower infamy.

Based upon what you’ve said, if you ran your best gear, you’d be capable of genuinely competing against those other ships in the battle, so I see no issue with the matchmaking here. You are close to dropping into the anti-tanking penalty zone, so I’d definitely recommend you get your best gear back on and raise that infamy before you get punished.

I guess I just stink at this game, because I am not tanking.

I don’t have one epic weapon that does more damage than the rare version of it. Hard to evolve when the parts and copy is not there.

So let’s just say my point again. MK7 boats will be put into 2300+ infamy battles with players with large epic weapons no matter what you have in gear score. Don’t upgrade to Mk7 until you have tons of epic high level weapons or plenty of legendary. Otherwise you will, get pummeled or you willl be stuck playing the same few weapons all the time with that boat.

I made no assumptions about your skill levels, but I am saying that you are at risk of dropping into the anti-tanking penalty zone if you lose much more infamy.
I am saying that running 4 mortars is a generally bad idea (if you face a speeder, you’re defenceless). You need to run a more balanced loadout.
It is ok to focus on rares until you get enough copies of epics. A T5 rare is roughly equal to a T3 epic. (Levelling Up epics before you’ve enough parts, cells etc is a waste of time and resources)
In order to raise your infamy, you’ve got to be more selfish and less focused on guild quests. Because running 3 big berta’s is asking to lose because it has such a slow projectile speed, everything gets out of the way.
As a shooter, you want to considering weapons such as big torp, mine, napalm, fire bomb, rail gun, sniper, explosive cannon, blast cannon grenade if you wish to progress.

This is what happens when Matchmaker(tm) manipulates outside of Infamy. So many players on these forums equate MK7 with NML players that the Devs reacted by treating MK7 as a special class in matches (similar with MK6 in an MK5 match, etc). If you are MK7, another MK7 will be automatically moved to the opposing side weakening your side. Balancing is actually MORE important than who is in the match in the first place.

I'm a fan of Infamy-only matchmaking, regardless of Captain Level, MK level, or Gear... it would avoid the situation you are in. Just hang in there and keep building up your items.

Last week I was trying to figure out how much it would cost someone to get to Captain Level 50 in one day. Assuming someone just installed the game, and decided to pearl their way through all the training. Incidentally, I think it would cost around a million pearls.

That would mean that someone could, hypothetically, upgrade to mk7 without ever playing a rated game.

That would probably come as quite a shock to the poor mk1 newbs who have also just installed the game: to be suddenly thrown into a game with a mk7. It might also be a bit pointless for the mk7, having to Pentakill his/her way through a hundred or more games, befote meeting anyone who can realistically put up a fight.

So I kind of get why mk7s are matched higher. It ‘theoretically’ provides a more balanced game for everyone. However, there do appear to be a lot of mk7s who struggle above 2k infamy. You probably just need to strike a better balance between questing, and optimising your boat to win games.

I’m sure there are plenty of people here, who would be happy to help you design a better build.

I agree with you. IMO balancing by ship Mk helps to create a fairer battle, but at the expense of longer term infamy balance.
The difficulty is, players are quick to complain if they don’t think an individual battle is fair, whereas a lot don’t notice the longer term effect so it is a relatively ‘quiet’ issue except at upgrading ship mk time.
