Is armor the most useless value in the game?

    Armor values are given as absolute in the ship hangar, which, if true, makes it the most useless stat in the game.

    "Defense reduces the damage from every hit you take."

    Lets take a common example:

    Base: 0 DMG reduction
    Crew: 5 damage reduction
    Item & perk bonus: 9 damage reduction

    Total reduction: 14 dmg per hit.

    This is huge if your max hp is like a 100 and the enemy hits for like 20 damage.

    Every hit would only take 6 points away, making armor completely overpowered.

    But since almost every weapon deals over 400 damage and people are running around with 4000 hp, it becomes completely useless.

    You would need 10 hits with 400 damage each if you do not have any armor to cut through these 4000 hp.

    With 14 armor the damage from each blow would be 386 need about 10,36 or 11 hits. Same goes for using a hp perk instead of armor.

    This gets worse the higher the damage is that is being dealt. If you have 5000 hp and weapons deal around 1000 damage, 14 armor is completely pointless.

    Armor should be percentage based so that it scales with progressively in all tiers of games.

    It aims mostly on defender. Defender gets more armor per MK. Right now my defender MK3 has 20 armor without skills. 30 armor will be at\on MK4. Also armor is good against carronade, which has relatively low damage per projectile

    Literally "a lot of players" are using fire effects. They love it so much. So armor would help a lot. But wouldn't it be better if it was like %5 resistance to damage or something. Because that's what "armor" should do. It's already easy to escape from napalm, etc.
    But in other way napalm like weapons are area of effect so it's easy to hit and you may hit multiple targets. Weapons like blast cannon are not that easy to hit especially on speeders. So if they get a big block on damage no one would really use them.

    I would like to see armor percentage and armor penetration in the game. Singel target weapons could also show how much penetration point or percentage they have.

    @BirdFly, just in case, fire (burning) effects do not affect defence. They just do their damage.
    Hope I didn't misunderstand what you're talking about.
    Oh by the way, if defence points actually reduce burning damage per tick, defence points would be a lot more useful. Indirect need to flare guns and more love to Shooters and Defenders. :D

    Oh so burning effect guns are actually better than single target guns on dealing the full damage potential?

    In theory sure -- In practice 20 armor doesn't really affect 1500+ hits either.
    ---
    Armor is a fine stat to pick up from Block talents, but its not a priority & using +hp perks in your shields will probably yield more benefit as things are atm.
