How to get rare item pieces and epic pieces?

We can get rare item pieces from the shop, or by scrapping a rare item.
Scrapping a tier 1 rare item will give us guaranteed 1 rare piece.
Scrapping a tier 2 rare item will give us guaranteed 5 rare pieces.

Scrapping which tier items give us guaranteed 1 epic piece?
Answer: only epic items guarantee epic pieces. Though, starting from tier2 rare, you get higher chances.

The current game structure is such that it doesn't allow a person to try different ships. I want to try fixer, but for that I'll need to take 2 rare green items to level 20, and upgrade the ship with gold. It will take a lot of time to build the gold and sugar for this. On the other hand, scrapping these now won't guarantee that it'll help me to build the red item I want.

 

Can someone confirm a rare stage 2 item guarantees us 5 rare pieces?

I use grenades as a secondary close range weapon. I have stage 2 rare grenade and just received a epic grenade. I was debating which to invest in long-term, as receiving duplicate epic pieces seems unlikely. Maybe I'll hold onto both

A rare tier2 also gives 1 guranteed epic piece and 1 epic power cell.

Edit: A rare tier2 doesn't guarantee any epic piece, but it guarantees 5 rare power cells, 1 epic power cell, and 5 rare pieces.

scrapping rare doesnt ensure a guaranteed epic piece. doesn't mean you cant get lucky though...
if you wish for a guaranteed epic piece, you gotta scrap an epic item.

 

Wow Nice to see an example, thats good to know, can't say im in any position to scrap my gears for the 0.0001 chance of getting a good weapon but still, good to know
