    There's an exact amount of points you need for a particular rank,you gain points from posting,getting likes(Im just too lazy to find out how many but it will require 500message and 500likes gained for well-known)
    MVP ranks are special rank,just as @CaffeinatedChris said
    You're forum famous journey would be
    New member-> member>active member>well known >post alot of good stuff and hope for being MVP
