OK, so last season happened when I had finally stopped regulating my own infamy and just went for it. To my own surprise that carried me all the way up into Ace league. Then something happened and I was brutally tossed down 550 infamy points. I virtually stopped playing as I eyed another 250 points to the seal clubbing hell. Finally, I started playing again, only when I was perfectly rested, alert, well fed, etc. I really couldn't make much headway. I seemed to stabilize in the 1800-2000 range (down from 2350). Then yesterday happened. Now I'm back up again... this time even higher at 2425.

I don't think any of this is random and I think it has to do with the season reset. I'm guessing it's partially downward pressure from the nightmare reset and partly it's people shedding infamy all around me for the new quests.

Can anyone tell me better what it was that happened so that I can anticipate it this season and not get freaked out?

The Sunday after the infamy reset, and saturdays, are both brutal. If you wanna make a push, I recommend the last day before reset. This makes sure you don't run into a truckload of whales(well, you do, but, you know...)

So basically two days after the reset are awful. Presumably that's due to the infamy reset in nightmare along with people going back into questing?

Then what happened over the last 2 days when suddenly my infamy took wing again. I'd been locked into 1900-2100 or so and now it's at 2525. I can only assume that people are done questing and now want to lock in their season rewards or somesuch?

Well, I'd say it has to do with people having no more weekly quests, and tired of trying to push.

Thanks for the more experienced view.

It'll help me a lot to simply expect a nasty infamy crash over the next few days. That way I won't pull back from the game and my confidence won't harm my performance. I'll just understand it as "choppy waters".

Friending your enemies also helps in understanding how skilled you are. Every time I get a dude saying, "Man, you hackin' or somethin', there's no way you legit shot me from the other side of the map with your blast," I know I'm doing my job right.

Back in the day of counterstrike, quake, etc. my youngest son had a real preference for one shot, one kill weapons. That was his weapon of choice in whatever game he was playing... sniper gun, rail gun, whatever weapon offered that sort of experience. He did that a lot and his reactions were driven at the speed of a 10 year old nervous system. It was frightening to watch him.

So first he would count his wins based on wins.
That got too hard to count so he just started counting head shots.
That got too hard to count so he kept personal score by the number of bot accusations per game he got.

He felt that he was under performing if nobody had accused him of botting or he hadn't been kicked from the server :)

Since I was watching over his shoulder and I was way more of a geek than he was at that age, I know for a fact there was no botting. Just a lot of practice and the deadly speed of a young nervous system.

I was a flashmagging quickscoper in CS 1.6 as well lmao. It was frightening to see me play sometimes.

I never played deathmatches tho, I liked the bomb scenario and rush maps.

So there's this dude watching me play in a 'net café. And he goes, "Okay, we get it, you're hot stuff with the mag. Show me that performance on a Schmidt Scout, and we'll see who's the best." Incidentally, it was 5-6(we were losing, it was the last round) and I pulled out the Scout. Now the Scout is a special weapon. A sniper rifle that gives you the same mobility as a knife, but you have to get a headshot to onehit your opponent.

So I roll out, and my team is like, "Here we go again." The map is nuke(idk if you play CS but even so). I'm on the outer side of the buildings, and the ENTIRE ENEMY TEAM rushes me.

I shot ONE bullet, headshotting two of them at once, then I turned and ran. My bro with the AK got the third. Meanwhile, I was taking the flank, when two of the dudes jumped me. I fired one noscope, hitting the first dude in the chest, and finished both of them off with my DEagle. In the end, I'm like, 22 HP remaining, one bullet in the DEagle's chamber, and my team going "OMG OP!" and the enemy team raging. The salt caused a flood in the café that day...

Since you're here... see if you can fit this into the picture.

My sense, when I was on my downward plunge, was that no matter what I did the enemy team was on it much more promptly and aggressively than I was used to. "Sneaking up on them" seemed to fail way too often and when it didn't fail they still responded way too quickly. If felt like I was fighting a substantially better caliber of player. Whether it was the same people playing better or people being pushed down from nightmare I don't know. Or, maybe it was all just perception.

Infamy always goes up and down. My infamy has buckled up and down a lot but after 5 months at the same infamy average, every time I go up and dwn, I know I would return back to the 1700 mark again.

*nod* I get that. But this was three particularly severe swings.... up... down... up again. All of them were closely tied to the season calendar.

I'm trying to prepare mentally so that if tomorrow I'm suddenly thrashed down to 1900 infamy I know that it wasn't that I was on tilt or I simply wasn't good enough to play at my current level.

What I thought was going on (other than the infamy reset) was that other players were either tanking to lose infamy or using unfavorable weapons for the quests. So they weren't supporting the team as much as they used to. That left more of a load on me and... well... I'm the underdog in these matches. I'm already pushed as far as I can go so when more load fell on my shoulders more losses occurred. Then, when the rest of the people start playing to win again they carry me a bit more so I float up.

I've had this happen to me. I think, if you play in bursts, people start to notice you. As an assassin, this is the worst thing that can happen. I'm a YouTuber. People know me, and in a speeder, I'm usually numero uno target. Anyway. Your issue is that you killed enough pivotal targets for the players you got matched with to understand, "Hey, ignoring this dude is a bad idea, lets focus!"

I've noticed a pattern in my infamy recently (I'm not a try hard, but I don't purposefully lower my infamy either).
First I am stagnant at around a certain infamy for a while, then it slowly drops. Then I get a sudden surge in infamy and my average infamy climbs 500-800 points and it repeats again.

I experience something different. My infamy goes up after reset like for first 2 days. Yesterday 3 4 hrs before reset I was losing like hell most damage 2 3 kills and still on losing side every damn time from 3400 back to 3200 and now I can't stop winning back to 3400 in 10 odd games.
I guess it depends largely on what time you play and obviously what day. Weekends are bad, any weekends you're guaranteed almost 100 to 200 points drop, rivalry season reset is also bad time to play, a day before rivalry or hrs before rivalry is also bad time to play as people will play for quests.
The player pool online when you play matters a lot in your rise or fall.

Screenshot_20180409-131728~2.jpg Screenshot_20180409-131732.jpg I drop from 3.5k to 2.8K almost every season...I feel the exact same way Right now!

I actually think game punishes you for playing more...15K+ games played,i can say that I am avg good at this game,i don't underperform ( mostly avg Damage dealt) in any match (i have posted chains of screenshots without any selected good performances) OR neither do i do grave mistakes which cost me match.Yet after all care ful playing i seem to drop humongous amount of infamy

I don't know if devs ever plan to improve this roller coaster (as the guy said),but atleast they can give reasonable explanation for this system they designed.

Reduced rewards and stars for playing more games, dropping infamy is not something i signed up for (I have dropped below 800 my personal Best about 4 times in last 3 months)

    Progress from last six months.
    Mk5 to Mk6
    Every rare item T5
    Epics T4
    Infamy gain 0

I never understood how can I be at same skill level even after maxing my gear, played 4-5k more battles.
I came to conclusion that infamy system is not skill based its luck based as in everything in this game is based on luck and nothing else.
Good pool of players online you rise.
Bad pool of players online you drop.

I can't believe you went through that four times. My resolve is to uninstall the game and go find a better game if that happens. Partly, I think that penalty (what I understand of it) is pretty harsh and partly it'd just frost me to no end to be nailed for "seal clubbing" while I was actually trying my best. I think my disdain for the developers and the company as a whole really wouldn't let me play the game any more... or probably any of their games ever.

In my case it would be particularly amusing since I did, in fact, keep my infamy at a desired level for a long time and I was never once at risk of their stupid penalty.

I've noticed definite patterns in time of day also. I'm in PST (GMT-8). My mid-afternoon to early evening seems to match me with stronger team mates than other times. I've resolved to go through my battle log and record them all in a spreadsheet just so I can see the win/loss curves. I really want to know if my "sense" of it is backed up by the hard data and Rovio happens to give us that data.
