Why do my teammates always fire shots out, and give away our position at the start of the battle?

Mines, torps, and sometimes mortars are worth it. Because sometimes they hit, and any dmg is welcome. :)

In the beginning of matches I point my sniper as far as it can reach and shoot. In rare-but-not-so-rare cases I will hit someone. And sometimes a crit. If you have a chance to deal 1k damage to an enemy you can't even see at start of round there's no good reason to not go for it. You can also do this with mortars+range perks, torps and missles.

Around 85% of the times when I fire off torps at the beginning of the match, I hit someone, and that puts my team at an advantage of the other team doesn't have a fixer!

I had a match last night where someone fired a Hail Mary torpedo at the beginning of the match.

It was a Legendary III, and it found the poor, hapless, unfriendly Fixer.

Needless to say that match was over quickly.

Sometimes with things like mines and repair pulse, it’s useful to fire them off so your teammates can see you’ve got them.

Also, we all know where everyone starts, and which paths they typically take, so I don’t know how big a deal it really is ‘giving away’ your position.

I always shoot explosive cannon to the opposite end and have hit like 1/20 times. Thought I'm speeder mainly so I'll change position before anyone can actually fire back. Anyway, I find it worth to try as it can deal splash damage to all enemies if it hits and that damage is always welcome :)

Sounds like everyone here is extremely lucky and should go to Vegas immediately and bet it all on black on the roullete wheel.
But more likely we are getting the posters telling some very nice fishing stories. I caught a 6" fish, next day it's 12", and four weeks later the fish was as wide as your arms can stretch.
I prefer teammates don't give away position.
There are exceptions to every rule about which weapons to fire first.
    Level 1)
Torpedoes, rail gun, tesla bolt. If your weapon can go the length of the map. Fire it.
    Level 2)
weapons for crowd control. Mines and napalm fire it to where it will control the map. Fire at the opportune moment into specific areas.

    Everything else.
    And is level 3)
Spin the roullete wheel. And is optional.....but seriously....dont fire most of them early. Percentage of hitting anything with these weapons. Extremely low.
All talk of hitting an early blind ex cannon shot. Fish tale.
As a defender. I prefer my team doesn't give away position until we can see the other teams location. Position and location of enemy forces in naval battles. Tactically huge.
Reason to not fire early besides position.
Long reload of weapons. Firing off your ex cannon will cost you 11 seconds.
Firing off your big bertha mortar will cost you more.
I prefer seeing every one of my friends team shots doing for certain damage. DPS. And not miss shots.
I know most don't agree with this. But this philosohy has risen my infamy from 2k to 5k last season. And currently 4.7k this season.
I don't waste shots. Ever. I only shot to hit targets. And if I miss. Its because I mis aimed or the other boat out hiked my shot, or a wave.
But I never ever fire for the random what if.
I also know other great torpedo users...ysl in my guild. She hardly ever fires her torpedo early. Games I have played with her. This happens maybe only 10 percent. She values the element of sneaking up on her enemy.
So do I. So if u are in a match with me. JAWS. Please don't.
Give away our position. With the above listed random exceptions.

But if you have a strong feeling as to where the enemy team is, I think it's better to fire torpedoes. In multiple occasions, I've actually destroyed someone by using that type of judgement. (Within some of the BB players I know, they joke around, telling me that I have some sort of sonar)

And that's not a fish story... Heck, even @Joeyaa was there when I took out someone with a "blind" shot from across the map... That was an awesome match... Good times...

I use to get very agitated when teammates would fire off weapons early, and I would get ENRAGED when they kept shooting me in the back. It took me a while, but now I realize it is all about communication. Mines, Napalm, Healing are all good ones to say "Hey, this is what I have." And for those friendlies shooting me in the back? They were trying to say "Follow Me. Let's sink boats together."

I have epic LRM with perks, with 42 range. If I know predictably where unfriends go, I fire and hit 4/10 times without a target....certain maps have predictable mortar landing zones!

Speaking of early torpedoes, this happened yesterday. I get the feeling the unfriends weren’t very happy about it...

lol thats hilarious. A few days ago I was playing and overboosted straight past corner only to be hit by one of Banderas' t5 legendary torpedos, all before I even had sight of the enemies. Safe to say I went 100->0 real quick

I once sniped down a mk4 fixer with low health without knowing his exact position in a 1v1, by seeing his pulse and leading my bullet. Dont pulse out in the open is my opinion.

Yeah this too. I often know where the enemy is clustered because of fixers pulsing in the distance
