Here’s my two cents after playing this game for two years.
First of all, I am not a gamer, and I’m sure I’m older than most players here. Yes, I owned a Pong game when it first became available, and I did have an Atari when it first came out, but that was the extend of my video game playing. Forward about 40 years, I get an iPad, and start playing this new game called Battle Bay. At first it was fun and addictive, but I quickly became frustrated with it, just like most players. I have a lot of free time, so I was playing BB about 10 hours a day, every day... I was getting a lot of battles under my belt, and I was building weapons of all kinds. But I wasn’t getting Anywhere, infamy wise, with it. My infamy did not correspond with the number of games I had played. That was after more than a year of playing the game. People gave me a lot of grief for that. Most people with the number games I played were in Nightmare league. My top infamy only reached 2000. I got fed up with the game and swore I wouldn’t play it again. I shredded my entire inventory, so all I had was parts and pieces. I figured that would stop me from trying to play again. Three months later, without looking at the game, I was bored and downloaded the app again. I started playing. I had nothing for weapons at first, and my infamy quickly dropped to ZERO. I kept playing and started building weapons.
In just a couple months I have gone from 0 infamy to 1850. It won’t take long for me to surpass my previous infamy high score.
This is what I’ve figured out: There are many ways to approach this game, (I must have tried every wrong approach), but only a few ways actually lead to success. I stopped doing the things that weren’t getting me anywhere. LOTS of paths in this game are dead ends. Also, playing this game too much can negatively affect how well you do. You can easily burn out, and yet keep playing, to your detriment. I don’t play nearly as much as I used to. The concept of “tilt” from Texas Holdem applies to Battle Bay. And like Texas Holdem, you can do everything right in BB and still lose battles. I can’t tell you how many times I scored twice as much damage as anyone else in a battle and my team still lost. There are variables that you have no control over in this game. So it’s better to think of wins as a matter of percentage of total games and not become obsessed over specific battle loses or poor players that find their way onto your team. That will just drive you nuts and cause you to “tilt”.
Take the time to seriously analyze your game play, and make adjustments, stop doing those things that aren’t getting you anywhere. Try another path. OK I’ll stop now before I try to write a book.
