So I've been doing this for a while and wanted to help some active players who may not know about this.

You can scrap lots of commons for a chance to get item pieces. I do this to farm rare items because as a free to play player (besides being a VIP member) I am not stacked up on epics and I don't think I will be any time soon so I want lots of dupes of the rare items I use. Note, you may or may not pay more than the store price for a rare item piece. And in very rare cases you could even get epic or legendary item pieces!

Every time I am at 200-300k gold I will spend it all on commons to scrap. To me, rare pieces are almost priceless. I will happily pay 100k gold in scrapping commons for a rare item piece because they only show up in my shop once every 6 hours (unless I'm unlucky). And sometimes I'll get 2 for the price of 1!

If you are saving for a boat upgrade, needing to upgrade your items and buy parts tor them or wishing to buy every rare and epic perk you find in your shop this is NOT for you.

For someone who has been doing this for a while I can say this is a good strategy to evolve your rares if you are willing to make lots of gold and possibly pay large amounts for a duplicate item.

I did this once with 100 commons. Didn't get any legendary piece and 1 epic piece. 16 rare pieces so it's worth it with few rare and epic parts. Kinda dull though.

    Euhm... Explain why please?

Actually, I have been doing this too. Whenever I max out my gold I spend 500k on commons to scrap. This results in lots of rare pieces, a few epic pieces, and if I'm really lucky, even a legendary item piece.

I mean they arent going to be throwing legendary pieces out for 100 commons, it takes thousands of commons to get legendary pieces.
Very worth it if you are all rare and need some duplicates.
Only bummer is the wasted common cells.

True @behumble, but my captain level is about to be 29 and I am in need of gold. Maybe when I upgrade all my main ships, then I consider going back to try this. Plus, rare and epic perks keep showing up in shop is not helping.

Look at it this way, once you've filled out all slots with rare or epic perks, you don't have to buy them again, thus allowing you to actually save up money.

But I do have all the slots filled out with Rare and Epic items. Doing this process more likely to give out duplicates. At worse, you get some parts.

At a bare minimum this is way better value than buying common parts directly from the store.

Would still prioritize having enough gold to grab epic perks though!

Yea, I reached 110,000 common parts without ever buying any from shop. Then I started upgrading each common to lvl 10 before I scrap them. Just to get rid of some :D

Be carefull tough, before you know it you'll run out of sugar. You don't want to run out of sugar when you want to train a new captain, or upgrade your main gear :)

Hard to run out when you are playing 100 games after being capped xD and upgrading commons are very cheap

I agree with you, i always keep 1.5 mill gold mark(for epic perk of course) , when my gold exceeds the mark i may start buying parts and pieces

If you could buy 2 of the same common items I would but I don't feel like saving any

I do it sometimes. Mostly when I have 8 or 9 rare parts and I need 1 or 2 more to combine. Usually I would purchase 10 common items, scrap it, and oftentimes I managed to obtain additional parts enough for combination.
