I've been using my shooter since I started playing but now I think there are other ships that are better. Also, I just upgraded my enforcer to mkv5 which I use sometimes. I'd like to upgrade one more ship to mk5 and I'm choosing between defender or speeder. I have a blast cannon, big torp, swift torp, railgun, ex canon, and flare. Thank you

It all depends on your play style, speeder requires a lot of skill and is fast paced, and because you have been playing mainly shooter you're not used to those speeds and low health. So personally I'd recommend that you go with defender. And ask about some good defender setups.

I personally play shooter, fixer and speeder. I understand from your post that you have scrapped all your yellows thus far so, item-wise, defender would be the most logical way to go since you already have reds and blues. But then, what I know about defenders is that they tend to keep low cool-down weapons because they don't have a lot of red slots, which gives them enough time to use (at least) one standard cannon to its full strength. You don't seem to have kept and/or levelled up a standard C, but it's not mandatory either...

Anyway, what I can tell you for sure is this : maybe speeder needs more skill and it will definitely demand some adjustment, but it's a LOT of fun to play. I play mine with the frost mortar + big bertha + blast cannon combo, but others slow down their target and then send a big torp, which you already have. And others use a combination of tesla bolt + shield + overdrive/nitro to approach their target, deal high damage with short range weapons and then escape.

If you choose the speeder path, you will certainly have more investment to do in terms of items, but it will add more diversity (and fun, perhaps) to your game than a defender. Your call...

I started out much like you playing shooter and now excel most with speeder. Try it out and get familiar with yellow items. It's a much more offense oriented ship where shooter works best sticking together with team mates
