So if you don't have the slow effect selected for Swift lvl 12, does that mean the additional slow effects don't work at lvls 16 and 19? Or do lvls 16 and 19 on swift operate the slow effect irrespective of whether lvl 12 slow on swift is oporational? The level description on Swift's tech tree is kind-of vague.

Nope, you need level 12 or they won't work.

Damn, I like my 5% speed boost. Thanks, now I know what I need to retrain whenever the carronade pops up as a guild quest.

Swift is my currently least useless upgrade, just getting it to lvl28 so I can upgrade a few spots to empty in my inventory. Also why would you do carronade/frost combo? Sounds dumb to me.

    Edit*
Ah sorry, I get what you're saying, I like the slow effect if I'm running the carronade (rarely) but it's good against those speeders at close combat when you smash them with a flare/cannon combo on top of the fast carronade reload. As I said in earlier, this is strictly for guild quests, not my main loadout

Actually carro slow isn't useless. If you use carro to your main setup i reccomend it but you just wanna finish quests so you don't need to slow effect.

I had maxed slow talents on my carronade for a long time and its worthless if you're not using yellow boat/fixer with overboost.

Even though slow percentage numbers look impressive, it's negligible in practice. I used to have it on my shooter to fight yellow boats but in practice, only boat it slows down considerably is defender (yeah like we really need that). It doesn't even completely nullify their overboost effect let alone slow them down below their regular speed.

Considering all talents we have to sacrifice for slow effect, it's simply not worth it.

Yeah you right. Slow works great with my yellow ship but i don't see any big gain for shooters and probably defenders too. But if i was a shooter i had keep using slow effect :D not a game changer but still works fine against speeders. They getting little hard when they tries to get away from you and your team. Because of that i see slow better than %5 speed and +1 range. You can maximize your speed with an epic turbo.

Turret slow is the thing that is really helpful, use with a rudder and you can’t be touched

I take a carronade into every battle when I'm on my shooter. It comes in handy when you've got a speeder trying to slash through and cause some mayhem. Even one pellet can slow him down considerably (especially if his overboost runs out at a bad time) and then your teammates can hammer him. I've helped turn many a speeder into fish bait with that strategy.

Otherwise, I use it either to go back and forth in a carronade/cannon/sniper combo to just sling out 500-1000 not counting critical hits every second or so, or to try to slow people down for a torpedo, but the latter takes a bit of luck sometimes.

The best thing about the slowdown is it doesn't get cancelled out by follow up damage. So if you can slow him down, your teammates can hit him without causing the frost to go away. All in all, it takes a lot of practice to master, but it's worth it in my opinion.

you know, I tried the carronade + torp combo, to see if the slowed enemy bonus worked. But carronade talents took a massive toll on my Mark 5 shooter. Plus, I couldn't land the combo.

The turbo I have (E50 with epic perks) helps make it a viable option for me, as I can afford to sacrifice some speed talents in favor of the carronade and still cook right along. But also, I didn't even bother with the carronade until I got it to around level 35-40 and had 6 pellets. And at this level, it's something that works more out of dumb luck than anything (around 2000 it worked like a charm, but not so much in Ace1).

Also, you don't get the damage boost that you would if it was a true frost, but the bad guys do have a lot harder time trying to dodge them. Especially if it's a defender or a shooter who was already not going very fast.

It's even funnier if someone else shoots the torpedo and the enemy is trying to strafe, but you slow them down at just the perfect time and drop their health just enough, and then WHAM!
