I love LAN/Bluetooth on just about any game, but I don't feel it's feasible in this game to be honest. This progression system is completely server based and you should never integrate online/offline progression together. If they did, exploitation of progression would be extremely simplistic relative to how difficult it is now. Any client-side opening is essentially a potential exploit, nearly without exception, and it's easy enough to exploit even server-sided systems in some cases. In a group where all involved are unwaveringly altruistic I'd completely agree with this 100%, but alas, I'm a realist (maybe even a pessimist but eh, label me as you please).
For custom servers YES ABSOLUTELY! I'd love that, being able to set up private servers and pick map, teams, time limit, how many players etc.. That's always a great feature for any game that could never damage replayability. Of course, progression could not be allowed in custom matches if it were added, and it will undoubtably cause issues with matchmaking (less players using it, which would be a given). Regardless, I want this too. I would like to play with/against a group of friends in matches without queueing at the same time with the hopes of getting lucky (in some games you'd be surprised how well this actually works).
Edited to add: Didn't realize I didn't refresh the page when I came back to comment, so I just noticed you mentioning Asphalt 8 as your example. As someone who also is a fan of games by that company (are we not supposed to mention "competitors" here?) also, I particularly like their local server feature that they always throw in. That's one of the main appeals of their games for me. Yes, something like that in BattleBay (and really for any game) would be awesome, but as I stated first and foremost, offline mode wouldn't work for this particular type of game. The company that makes Asphalt 8 prides themselves on bringing console-esque games to your phone, and as such, the way they develop the game from the very day they start coding is done with this in mind. Rovno did not develop BattleBay with that in mind, and so making an offline system would be very difficult.
