So the devs have stated that matchmaking tries to match people on losing streaks against each other, so that one of them ‘must’ break their streak.

Initially, this sounded like a sensible idea, but I’ve started to wonder if it might actually exacerbate the problem of streaks.

At my ‘normal’ infamy, I’m not usually the biggest hitter on my team, so it’s quite hard for me to carry games on my own.

Ideally, if I were to drop a few hundred infamy, then I should get easier games, until I am able to consistently get top damage, and go back up.

However, if I drop because of a bad streak, and I start getting matched against other ships on losing streaks, then it will mean that instead of my games getting easier, I’ll just be meeting harder players, who are currently underrated.

It might make more sense to match people on losing streaks against people on winning streaks (who would most likely be overrated), or just not treat them specially at all.

The 10 people are chosen without taking streaks into account. Only when teams are being shuffled it looks if it can place players on a losing streak against each other without jeopardizing balance in other ways.

    Thank you for responding Miika.

I guess it sounds ‘fair’ to pit underrated players against each other. And it would certainly break the streak for one of them, but for the other the streak continues.

Today, I was trying to complete a ‘win 3 games quest’, to wrap up my 18 quests for the week. I eventually won 3, but lost 10 in the process. It didn’t feel like my games were getting significantly easier as I dropped down.

I’ve heard you mention ‘normal’ infamy, with respect to people dropping below the reward threshold. Is ‘normal’ infamy a consideration for matchmaking/shuffling, or is it only ‘current’ infamy?

By the way this is a different and much narrower scenario than you previously stated when you simply said that the system actively tries to break losing streaks by pitting losing streak players against each other. Now you've added all these qualifiers to it- "well yes technically it does try to break losing streaks but only under these certain conditions". If you're going to deal in half truths you should expect to have half credibility.
