Frost Compromise

    So it has been done, and many are unhappy. Devs went too far, etc. etc. Many threads on this, not too many solutions.

    Nerf supporters want to not be stuck in one spot and bombarded. That wish was granted. Frost supporters want the damage combo. This % was nerfed on top of only allowing it to be a 1x deal before breaking. (Recall that fire damage bonus was nerfed the same % and you don't hear any complaints about that!). My issue is that frost is now a 1v1 weapon and removes any teamwork from its purpose.

    How about a compromise? Leave the frost ice break at 1 hit, allowing ships to gain full movement after one hit. HOWEVER, please return the frost timer to allow for continued frost damage bonuses! Keep everything else the same. As a visual, leave the ships tinted blue or something.

    Adding frost damage bonus timers back will bring back combos, but breaking frost will not make ships a sitting duck. Best of both worlds. It will be no different to fire weapons in terms of damage.

    I don’t think it’s enough. No one really cares about frost damage. What was good about frost is it allowed people to land ‘hard to hit’ weapons like Big Torps and Bertas (and even mines). Those weapons are so powerful, it’d be ‘worth it’ even without any extra frost damage.

    The problem now, with frost, is that you can’t land those hits anymore. So retaining the extra damage that you don’t need, on the weapon you still can’t hit with, just adds insult to injury.

    Thats a fair point, how should the nerf had been handled?
    Reduction to duration? Increase to cooldown?

    To be honest, it seemed closest to balanced a few months ago (before the guild update).

    I would have just scaled back the crew talents a bit. And ‘maybe’ give it a hp rating like the Tesla Shield, so that Big Torps and Bertas will definitely break it, but inconsequential stuff like cannons will only lower its hp.

    Before break: Frosted, full slowdown.
    After break: For full duration, frostbite. Ship looks icy, but not as icy as when frost was initially applied.

    It should have been only about frost power in the first place. But i’d welcome your buff benguin (almost any buff at this point). It would make torps usable again, but berta would still be hard to hit since it’s slower (?) and harder to land than torp.

    For me, I think the frost issue was really with only the blaster and not as much the launcher. Reducing speed by a maximum of 50% should have been enough to balance blaster, and launcher would be max 30% or something. As a support item, it is the frost damage boost that I care most about. It is a way for me to help my team as an enforcer. I understand that a speeder would use it more as a 1v1 tool.

    @ViscountSniffit Berta and big torp should be hard to hit with. Big risk, big reward. And with the current system now, you still have the ability to hit with ONE of those, not 3 or 4 which was the case. Scaling back talents would have only effected the damage boost element which as you said is pretty ancillary to the main thwack of a weapon hit.
