I've been playing for about a week now, Lv14 and I enjoy playing Defender b/c it means I'm not a total glass cannon when I'm constantly battling Mk3-5 ships. I have some rare weapons I enjoy using, but wanted to know what should my sugar priority be? I feel like getting to Lv17 for Mk3 is the most important thing, but I can't put a dent into a lot of the opponents either.

As the in-game tip says.... always keep your crew training. I level weapons after setting a crew to train. Often a crew training can increase your weapon by 10 points or 5% which in the beginning is way more than the +6 you get for a weapon level. Don't fixate on winning and losing, or infamy and just grind up the levels. Ship Mk levels is the easiest way to get more hp, and if opens you up to more weapon slots which mean more damage. It will level your playing field faster too so you can hang longer.

    Good luck!

Thanks! I was kind of leaning to training, and upgrading my gear as I can.

My strategy is simple and follows benguin's. Start training, save sugar for the next training and then use extra sugar to upgrade items. Your items will be slow to upgrade, but they will catch up eventually.
