i see all top players using burn perk on cannons, i did little math and got confused, why?
im not sure burning is on top of base damage or total damage, but assume it calculate on total damage for this calculation.
    EX: cannon 100 damage
    burn perk 36% (12% x 3)
    damage perk 24 (8%x3)
    burn talent 40%

    * with burn perk cannon doing 100 damage, while burning it doing 176 damage
    * with damage per cannon doing 124 damage, while burning it doing 173 damage

I’m pretty sure it’s base damage.

    Damage perks are base damage.

    Fire perks are overall damage.

    (So I've been told)

It's because of all the captain talents also boosting the total damage, which fire perks take advantage of, but damage perks would be unaffected by ( fire % boosts the damage after damage boosts aka the final damage) Try your calculations again with a +50% base damage from captains. I believe that it's most optimal to have 3 fire damage and 1 regular damage perk? Not 100% on this.

    I have lvl50 rare explosive.
Its base amg is 623+15=638. It has +55% base and +30% burning dmg from crew training.
    I deal:
    1) With 3 dmg perks (+18%):
    638*1.73=1103 base dmg
    1103*1.3=1434 against burning enemy
    2) With 3 dmg against burning target perks (+27%):
    638*1.55=988 base dmg
    988*1.57=1551 against burning enemy.
But sometimes it deals 2200+ W/O CRIT! D:
I can't imagine, why(there must be huge rng factor or smth...). Have some screenshots with proofs, can post them if needed.

If ur target is always burning, dmg against burning enemies perks are definitely better for you.

Explosive is an area dmg weapon, u get less damage if the target was on the edge, this is how its works. I have seen enormous damage above 3k without crit on the target with burning effect stacked, 2 or more times. Probably there is a bug...

There is a +/- 10% (at most) factor for all cannon shots.
