An Idea on Boosting VIP Subscriptions... Add More Value

An idea on how Rovio could boost VIP Subscriptions... follow Amazon's "Amazon Prime" subscription methodology.

Amazon could have easily sat back and grown complacent and just kept Amazon Prime, a free two-day shipping subscription. But they didn't. They kept stacking more and more value onto Amazon Prime until it became the "must have" subscription. It was genius. So how could Rovio increase interest in VIP Subscriptions? By continually adding value. Here's 1 idea:

High Definition Game Video Downloads.

I would work it like this... VIP'ers get 12 video downloads per week which can be accessed from the Battle Log screen. If you want more, then you could buy packs of downloads for a reasonable amount of pearls.

So here is where it's a "win-win" idea. We Battle Bay'ers get copies of selected games to put up on YouTube and social networks, and Rovio gets free marketing and a value add for their subscription. The more people see the videos, the more people will be intrigued and want to try the game. The more people playing, the better the matchmaking. Each one of us becomes marketing emissaries for the game when we upload video footage to YouTube. It's free marketing for Rovio and quick & easy access to HD game videos for us.

Just an idea.

Oh and yes, iOS 11 will come out with screen recording. But odds are you won't turn it on every time, and there will be games you will want to be able to access, that you didn't record.

 

I like this idea. I'd definitely renew my VIP for this. Would help out a lot since when I record, my game is a bit laggy. Would love to be able to have a good game and be able to go back on it to record

 

I like your idea, but actually this should be available to everybody, not just the vip players. And Unlimited videos at that (don't give rovio greedy ideas lol)

But 10 euros every month just so that we don't have to watch ads, and acces to a chat that's slightly less worse than global chat.. It's not really worth it.

I do think that VIPs should get a little bit more benefit. Maybe an aditional 10% discount on everything in the shop? 10% reduced costs to lvl up and upgrade items?

 

The whole idea of adding value to a subscription is to make it more attractive. Giving exclusive benefits. Why should a F2P player, who doesn't even watch the ads, so in turn contributes nothing, get more free benefits? This idea is about adding value those who are financially supporting the game via a VIP Subscription and entice the ones who haven't bought a subscription. It's about converting F2P players to players who help support the game by enticing them to spend less than a movie ticket costs.

 

Excactly. That's why VIP subscribers should deserve something extra. It's just that I consider video recording as a basic function. Something the devs should have implemented already a few months ago. VIP or not, I think everybody should be able to record and share their matches if they desire to do so.

But hey, you own a design studio, someone with your creativity should be able to come up with alot more ideas. So don't give up, rather use that grey mass to think of more benefits we VIPs should deserve, I'm sure that you out of all people should be able to come up with more ideas

 

Yeah I'm not getting paid to come up ideas for Rovio full time buddy. I normally make a lot of money for my ideas. I don't have a problem if everyone gets to download their game footage, my idea was simply a way to buff VIP.

Okay but i did have other ideas though... I'd like to see the ability to convert pieces to other colors via some sort of ratio conversion. So someone like me who has 9 yellow legendary pieces and 8 green ones, who never uses either of those colored items, can convert them into colors i do use - like red or blue. Maybe a 2:1 or 3:1 conversion rate? Could work for all item versions from Rare to Legendary. I envision some sort of Trading Post. This could also be the venue for #3 down below. Could be a VIP exclusive feature.

Off topic:

1. I think having to pay to salvage or swap perks is ridiculous. These are items you purchased. You should be able to move them around as you see fit. I find a charge for them a bit greedy. Not everything we do needs to be charged. It's a steep charge too considering you earn very little pearls for matches.

2. I think when you scrap an item, that any perks on them, should be automatically deposited to your inventory. Not disappear. Or at the very least, there should be a modal that pops up with an alert saying "You have perks applied to this item, are you sure you want to scrap the item?"

3. I think Sugar and Gold should be able to be converted to one another. I would say they could "charge" a fee for the conversion that's built into the cost. Not a pearl cost however. This would go a long way to implementing goodwill with the players who max out of one and not the other. You can all ready exchange Pearls for gold/sugar, why not sugar to gold? Also, why not be able to buy pearls with gold ?

 

@American Marauder why u are so shure that f2p don't watch ads? Do u want to emphasize that they don't help devs at all(but u forget that they make a player base)?

P.S. That's not true at all. Every f2p player will enjoy that 50% bonus reward. Only nightmare players who maxed out all items can do that. But they are only 1 or 2% of community.

 

The conversion idea. That's actually a good idea. I don't see a problem with that being a VIP exclusive function. And more people will pay for VIP subscription if VIPs have that kind of function, garanteed.

Regarding your off topic points...

2. Agreed. How come they didn't implement a basic common sense function like that?

3. I agree with the gold/sugar conversion. But I don't think converting to pearls would be a good idea. Well, personally I would like it... But realistiscly, Rovio will make considerably less money if they allow us to convert for pearls. (Unless the trading costs are ridiculously high wich will just result in pissed of players)

 

Sure some do no doubt. I'm sure a lot don't too. Those are the ones i'm specifically addressing.

I support your concept but your idea is a little narrow and only appeals to a small audience. You want perks that draw a wider audience. There are a handful of players already posting gameplay video with little to no problem. If Rovio let even more players have access, it could saturate the market with lame videos and backfire for them. If BattleBay needed more advertising through socials, Rovio could post their own videos more.

I feel I am the target market for making VIP more attractive. I am no whale, I am the middle player. I have $ to spend and have bought some pearls, but I want my money to have big value. $10 a month gets me so much more elsewhere. For one it's roughly a monthly payment for Amazon Prime, which you referenced. Also several music streaming services are $10 a month. What is WoW these days? $15 a month? I get that $10 isn't that much money but the package needs to at least give the sense that it is the cool club that is making me level faster. Starting with discount on upgrades would be a good start.

I think the real question is whether Rovio WANTS you to become a VIP member. I mean, how much do you think Rovio gets by me watching an ad? $0.01? $0.05? Assuming only a penny per ad view, that doesn't take too long to add up to $10 really fast in a month with only 1000 ads watched. So if each F2P player watches 100 ads per month, 10 F2P players equals 1 VIP. And I dont think 10% of the game are in VIP.

Keep the ideas coming! One will stick and gain momentum.

I might buy VIP if this happens. I was already tempted because it seems I'm in this game for the long run and vides would be awesome. Even just to view.

Interesting idea. It would be nice to know how Battle Bay is doing financially. That way, we can know if the amount of profits they're currently receiving hinders or improves update content and/or delivery time.

 

Good suggestions, VIP could certainly use more added benefits (although the added farm speed is pretty impressive if you die as fast as I do!).

Off-topic: It would be such an easy fix to just prevent scrapping of anything with perks attached. For 99.9% of the population 225000 gold is more worthwhile than 10 pearls.

 

I am an F2p and i watch every ad, without add the rewards are low most of the time and no pearls (not blaming rovio for that). So you guys shouldn't speculate that we don't watch ads, have you even considered how low the reward is without watching ads? Sorry off topic

 

you see the difference between a vip and a F2P? without ads the player gain nothing and must play at least 3X time for same amount of gold/sugar.
if he wait until end of stupid fight with ads he got a good reward.
he always see MK+2 playing with him, without being able to do nothing...
he need to do more fight than you for having the choice of opening green box (normal he don't paid)

Ftp can get same rewards as vip if they watch video, which is the least we can do to support game since we aren't helping by paying. ...
He doesn't need to make an ftp account to know and understand that progress is much slower and u won't get the epics or legendaries that boosts whales progress.
