In a game I use to play we needed dupes to evolve also, originally you needed the exact copy but at some point they changed it so you could evolve with either 1 exact copy or 2 of any type of unit as long as it was the same rarity
It made a big difference

 

one of the worst problems of HTDM is the lack of blue and yellow gear. I propose an option to get back our scrapped items like Turbo, Big shields, Nitros... On the other hand, we should have the option to buy duplicates of the same rarity of the ones we have fully evolved (this only for yellows and blues - excluding Tesla Shield): this means that if you have a full T5 epic turbo, you can buy as many epic turbos as you want... the same for rares, legendaries and uncommons.
Solving gear issues and making other small changes, HTDM would be awesome and would be viable as an alternative ranked mode.
