Cannon type projectiles disappearing

    Upon death any Cannon fired projectile disappears mid flight but mortar projectiles do not. Shouldn't they have the same characteristics?

    I am seeing all kind of weird shot effects, or lack thereof! Take a look at this one that just happened in a 95ms visually lag-free game...

    I am the shooter flyhighone, and I know that I had multiple hits on this player without effect. As you can see, the green ring that appears around the defender at 3-seconds is from my grenade launcher. Even though he stays in middle of the ring, you see the mortar round flying past him at 4-seconds with no damage inflicted.

    This is the kind of stuff that leads to the speculation about balancing, because this wasn't a laggy game, just time for me and my team to loose, irrespective of how well we played.

    Your grenade missed.
    You fired that shot as he crested a wave, and so as he dipped down it went straight over his head.
    That's actually most common (for me) with defenders.

    Because of server latency this happens pretty often, not just with cannons but all active items.
    While on your device you see that you got the shot off at the instant of death, you were actually dead before you could fire on the server (which is where it matters).

    I'm talking mid range shots with EC and BC where the projectile is in the air for longer than my 75ms ping

    He was still in the splash damage ring though and received no damage which is a while nother issue

    Grenades can be tricky to use, waves change quickly and the projectile sometimes doesn't hit the projected ring.
    The grenade buff was already too much I think, they don't need any more training wheels.

    If it's in the air longer than my ping the server should register a shot fired but doesn't. This makes me think it's a coding issue not a ping issue. Also if it was ping causing it to not register we would also see this happen with mortars but dont.

    That splash damage ring was only accurate at the moment the shot was fired. As soon the wave moved, the ring was moot. Remember, the landscape is ever changing, take the target ring as an approximate. In the clip it appears that as the Defender crests the wave, he settles down lower which causes the grenade to be overthrown on the target hence the no damage. Frustrating? Yes. Trust me, I’m a Grenade user myself. I’ve watched it happen WAY to often. You have to learn to read the waves, see which way they roll, and adjust your shot.

    Want to see something else glitchy?

    Shoot through a teammates tesla shield .. your projectiles disappear but still cause damage. So, if you ever take damage and didn't see the incoming shot .. that might be why.

    I always thought it just blocked the shot. I’ve never bothered to watch a shot when that’s happened. I’m gonna pay more attention.

    Actually, here is a short clip of that shot exchange from my perspective. I took the shot and watched it miss before I was destroyed.

    I notice 4 types of games (not criticizing out of balance players/ships, or games with visible lag issues like skipping ships):
    1. We lose - It's fair, they played better or we played worse than usual.
    2. We win - it's fair, we played better or they played worse than usual .
    3. We lose - doest feel right. shots that are supposed to hit are missing, and ones that do don't count.
    4. We win - doesn't feel right, almost every shot hits with full damage, even blind shots.

    After almost 10k games, you get the feel for when you are not playing at your best, or there is lag. I can also tell when I am getting credit for playing way better than I am, as well as when I am not getting credit for playing well. I promised I would not say this again, but this just feels like intentional balancing.

    It looks like the defender went down little from his perspective, now take a look at my latest post where it shows it from mine, it should have been a direct hit.

    Here are my last 5 games, I'm in 1st place on my team in all of them with the highest damage. In fact, except for one of the games, I have the most damage of any player, yet, we still lose most of them. On the two games we won, I felt it was working well, on 2 of the 3 we lost, same issue as with the defender in my video above.

    Curious if this works with torpedoes and mines. Also if mortar splash circles don't appear if the shell passes through...
    Could be a serious exploit for fleeters

    I haven't paid attention to see if grenades, EC, or missiles do it .. but it happens fairly often with my sniper.

    It would be worth testing out in a custom match for sure.

    Play around with leading your grenade in different directions.. but waves will throw off the landing circle regardless. It's something you'll have to mess around with.

    As far as leading your team in damage more often than not ...

    Grenades for sure.
    Not sure if the projectile is invisible to all players though, or only the one who fires it.
