RIP Standard Cannon

You will be missed. I remember when I got my first 100 wins and I got my own rare standard cannon. The reload on it was amazing We had a good 2 years of you. You're in a better place now.

I keep thinking about scrapping them. I don’t have a great deal of confidence in SC with the current TS meta, but maybe they’ll be useful one day...

 

Epic T5 kicks around 1100 to the burning enemies.
I always imagined the best combo for defender would be: flare + dual cannon (it doesn't do anything to Tesla Shields, that's its drawback). Maybe it could use a special event perk with a chance to ignore tesshields?

Yes RIP standard cannons. They no longee exist. Now we got "cannons"

 

I use dual cannon + flare on defender a lot in the events. It works well in most battles (even better with lube). Even against TS between the flare and rapid firing of the cannons most shields can be broken early. Biggest downside I think is that when the shield is down you don’t have a really hard hitting weapon to use in that few second window - have to hope to get lucky and crit or use a flare but lose the chance to pop the next bubble.

In one weekend event (can’t remeber which one) I added about 1.5 million damage to my cannon achievement using this combo.

 

The best part of (Standard) Cannons is that due to their damage, projectile speed and sound, enemies can believe it's a sniper... Tesla Shield users could prefer to shoot again once instead of activating Tesla Shield with the belief that the cooldown would be larger, and then suffer the consequences. yeah I lost a match because of it.
However, in most cases they're useless in higer leagues

 

My T5 epic flare won't break many tesla shields anymore. This is a huge issue!

I use dbl railguns and a std cannon:

My average dmg per battle using a defender is around 20k
(I don't have any defender talent activated since i keep switching ships)



(btw ignore my infamy because I just decided to start this season. cya in couple days)
I forgot to mention: Im so useful against yellows.
These are the battles where I used a defender today.

Got some use for spitting out that extra little damage to pop the bubble when your flare/blast/EC doesn't quite cut the mustard. A lot less painful than doing EC > flare to pop 1 bubble.

 

I think standard cannon can be a great weapon, especially on ships that don’t use much direct damage or lack weapons (firebomb spammers and defenders)

It’s okay on enforcers, but there are too many buttons to take advantage of the cool down.
