Finally got my mk6 ships

    So I thought, finally I can fight mk6's on their level now! (Because for 7 months mk5 up against 3-4 mk6's per match, around 2300 rank.)


    Nooooooope

    Consistently going up against 2-3 mk7's per match. Why is it that either special modes like CTF or regular deathmatch match me against same level ships? (and I won't get started on the fact that I don't have any legends yet go up against legends every single match :)

    Sarcasm aside, why is it that matchmaking is non stop matching me against higher ships with better gear for like a year straight?

    Legendaries arent a problem, T5 epics are much more powerful so dont worry about legendary weapons.
    As far as the boat mismatching this is just part of progression, as frustrating as it is.

    Once you upgrade MK level you get thrust into an entirely new class of matchmaking. This is very common in the MK5-MK6 upgrade scenarios, largely because there are so many MK6's running heavy weapons. I'll explain:

    Infamy is not actually a global number... it's primarily relevant in the context of your ship's MK level. When I upgraded to MK6 I lost infamy and It took me a month to get back to the high I set as an MK5. I waited as long as I could for my items to upgrade, probably Captain L42-43, but it still wasn't enough. I'm Captain 47 and my only Epic T5 is a shield, so I'm still lagging my item evolution relative to everyone else.

    Are you finding the event battles easier than regular ranked, by any chance? ;)

    The way the overall matchmaking works is that it tends to find the equilibrium of your combined player skill and total gear/item power level. When you're better-skilled than the average infamy level for your ship Mk, you end up getting matched against people with bigger ships and stronger gear, simply because your rank and win/loss history indicate that over time, you're still winning the majority of your matches and moving up the ladder.

    So the reason you're getting these tougher battles is "Because you're still good enough to win them."
