I don’t think gearscore realistically can be taken into the equation. It would fragment the whole infamy system.

I think people will just have to accept that as you rise in infamy, you’re going to meet bigger ships. The higher you go, the bigger they get, there is no way around that.

However, the problem IMO, is the big ships at ridiculously low infamies. That’s what is hurting the game.

But since the last update the matchmaking is giving mk6 in battles with mk1 and mk2, so why did they change that?
So, why did they come up with Gear Score and did not instead spent their time to improve upon the matchmaking itself? I don't get that, a Battle Bay theme song, but no new maps, no better mm, nothing. All useless updates!

True, but it is hard to evaluate 100 battles for me, i play 10 a day because of severe back and neck problems. Usually 2 battles at a time, so that takes too long.

Maybe someone else can do it ;)

New to the forum, a couple weeks into the game. I don't understand why so many people are against a gear based component to matchmaking. I'm assuming it doesn't matter after a bit of time and you can escape the seal clubbers? Well, from a new player perspective, it's pretty awful and discouraging. I finally got my ships to mk2, but not before I got to 700 infamy, and was beat down by mk3-5 ships that could 1 or 2 shot me. Fast forward a couple weeks to date and I'm up to 800 infamy facing mk2-6 ships, albeit with an mk2 this time. Still getting 2, and 3 shot, while my usual load-out takes off 5% in retaliation. 10% if I get in close with my blast cannon, but that's usually a suicide mission. I've seen mk6s with 250 infamy. This is OK with the majority of people here? I know it encourages money spending, yet I believe the ftp community is what keeps these games afloat. I've played ~500 games, and the last 400 I've been a basic non-factor. With the 50% win-rate model I feel that I'm thrown into it seems like a few months of boring grind is the only way this game becomes fun?

I have one question to ask,
    Let's say i have 5,000 infamy, and i carry a mk 7 enforcer with a gear score of 9288.
    How would matchmaking organise that?

    All thoughts wanted.

Hi, welcome to the forum. :)

What you’re talking about is absolutely a problem. There is no way new players should be running into a mk6 at 250 infamy.

But gear based matchmaking is kind of a double-edged sword. While it might stop a mk1 from meeting mk6 ships at 250 infamy, it would also stop a mk1 from meeting mk6 ships at 1000 infamy, or 2000 infamy, or 4000 infamy.

So the system would become fragmented. You’d end up with mk1s and mk7s at the same infamy, but thier infamy would be entirely out of sync, because they’re never able to meet each other, or even each other’s opponents.

That’s not to say it couldn’t be made to work somehow, but there might be better solutions.

The first thing we should do, is try to remove any and all incentives for people to tank. At the moment, between guild quests, leagues, and battle rewards, there is actually quite a lot of incentive for people to play below thier infamy. That needs to be rethought.

Secondly, we need a better system for identifying and dealing with people who are deliberately abusing the system (griefers, seal clubbers, etc...), as they are the real problem. The infamy system should actually work pretty well as is, so long as everyone played properly.

I agree that there are always people looking to game the system. Everyone, in fact, to an extent. Happy to say that I don't see a lot of 300 infamy mk6 ships, but the matchmaker does put themy with my 800 infamy group, so the devs must be considering gear score to a point. My recommendation would be to make pilot level more influential. If I CAN'T upgrade my ship past mk2, I shouldn't have to battle anything above mk3. Maybe mk4. The hit points vs dps differential is rediculious.

Many people here, not naming any names, will tell you that these mk5s are noobs. I'd recommend these people to face down a kid holding a Colt .44 because "He cannot aim it!"

Maybe there should be a split in which different ways of calculating matchmaking are done.
Below 1500 - Uses gear score (infamy still fluctuates with wins/losses, but they're not put into the matchmaking process)
Above 1500 - Normal matchmaking (without considering gear score)

Also, I think gear score was only put into the game for people to compare their gear to others.

Nah, it's probably in preparation for the long awaited alternative game modes. Guild wars or a tournament system. Not to replace the current ladder but coexist with.

What killed the game was season high score. Now you have nightmare players who win one game for their season to stay in Nightmare, then can drop to 3200 for easier games and gains, with 2 weeks to climb back to 'just' over 4k to keep getting free legendary pieces.. so they get more and more powerful, yet don't bother trying to climb the nightmare ladder. And that then reverberates down the ladder. Which is why there are so many players stuck between 1 and 2k infamy in mk6 boats. There's NO incentive to try, because they can't lose their nightmare rank. Take away season high, and put it back to how it was, and people will HAVE to try to keep their season placing

So to clarify. As the nightmare players who don't wish to compete for the nightmare #1 spot sit at or below 4k, they push those who should be between 3 and 4k down into the mid to high 2k zone... So those who should be sitting between 2.8k and 3.5k are then being pushed down to between 2k and 2.5k.... and so on. I have been up to nightmare on a good run, and now sit at about 3.4k on average. My mini account sits at 1300 with t4 rare items and a mk5 level because I keep getting trounced by mk6 t4 epic users... The effects from the top ripple all the way down the ladder... With the newest players copping the worst of it...

Why are people constantly ranting on about gear score? There's a reason why infamy works (reasonably) well: because it takes into account the many factors (e.g. skills, gear, trainings) that determine a player's level. This way people who have ok gear and good skills should rise, and those with good gear but bad skills would stay low. Of course, there is still a problem with newer players gaining infamy at the below 1000 infamy range because of the whales with big guns haunting those leagues. However, they clearly are doing something wrong to get them into a league much lower than they should, and most of the time it's their lack of skill. So, according to the infamy system their severe lack of skill should make up for their good gear, and they are SUPPOSED TO BE THERE. If this gear score thing were really implemented, those low-skill whales would have to get matched up with higher skilled people, so they would drop and eventually stay at a low level until their skill finally increases. But this not the main point; the more important thing is that this would impact EVERYONE who is not an expert; like average-skilled people who would have to face very skillful people with the same weapon level. So overall, using gear score is a really, really bad idea since it will only be good for the few lucky, talented people who play extremely well.

Edit: As for those people who are deliberately dropping, just report them and move on. That's what the report button was made for, after all! If they are dropping badly enough there should be many other people who would also report them, so there's no need to get so angry about them.

Gear score will never be counted for matchmaking ,why?

Because why i will ever spend money to get all t5 epic items ?

, when i can spend no money and get all t5 rare items , and i will kinda have the same experience ,

i mean if i use all rare items most of my enemies will be using all rare items so i will be having the same % of experience , of course if i got too high in infamy i might face players who use epic items ,

But not everyone in nightmare uses all +t3 legendaries so those who use legendary will wait too much to be put in a kinda balanced match and if they use all epic instead they will have a lower ETA and the same % experience ,

And also some players wont upgrade their items or switch their rare items to epic items when they have a good epic one , so the league reward wont be important like it was before . And with all those tanker , and playera who dont upgrade their ships and stay at low league and use powerful items ,....etc so believe me their will be a lot of players who won't upgrade their items like they do now

, But like i said "and playera who dont upgrade their ships and stay at low league and use powerful items " ok now counting gear score for matchmaking will fix the game a bit in low leauges , but every knows that high leagues are more important than low leagues ,

So what iam trying to say is that it will destroy BB economy and that will lead to closing the server .......etc

I believe matchmaking now has it so you will never have +/- 2 fixers (it balances them best they can). At least that’s what it seems like, but maybe things like fleeting can throw it off.

I think gear score is a problem on low infamy and not that important for most of us and I have no idea how it affects endgame since I'm still with just 3700 but I guess it is also pretty irrelevant.
RNGesus, please give me the players with higher skill score and let my enemies with the ones with bigger gear score :p
