    Is there a benefit to waiting before upgrading my ship to mk4.... like concentrating on leveling my weapons first, or should I just go ahead and upgrade ASAP? Thanks for any responses

    Upgrade as soon as possible. MK provides more weapon slots. If you want MK4, try fixer, enforcer, or speeder.

    There are pro's and con's to upgrading:

    Pro's:
    • More Health
    • More slots

    Con's:
    • Slower speed
    • Tougher matches
    The rule of thumb I use is goes like this. If you're a Mark 3 then look at the Mark 4's you are fighting. Get a sense of what their gear scores are. Don't upgrade until you're at least in the lower end of those gear scores.

    It won't be this bad at your level but we've seen quite a few posts here of higher infamy people upgrading too soon and then losing so much infamy that they are thrown into the seal clubbing penalty box.

    Ok thanks I see what you are saying.... I am fairly low infamy so I’m thinking I can go ahead and upgrade. Thanks!

    Welcome and I think the M4 upgrade is safe. Any damage done will be minor and short-term and you get to play around with the extra gun to help develop your skills.

    I planned the move from M4 shooter to speeder very carefully. In that case I was already going to be gimped by noobness in a speeder. The last thing I wanted was to also have crappy gear. I was even more careful on the upgrade to M5.

    Just be cautious. There are "kinks" in the infamy system. This one is small. Just be aware that to some extent you'll get tougher opponents at a higher mark. The system still prefers to balance on infamy but boat mark seems to be the secondary consideration.

    Just upgrade. The effect on matchmaking due to Mk is vastly overrated (a 1500 infamy mk4 is not a tougher opponent than a 1500 infamy mk3).

    Well! I upgraded to mk6 with T4 weapons...Now! I m paying the price.How?
    A bit More difficult opponents.But whats worse is ship and turret agility and weapons to counter my harder opponents are a bit weak

    So i realized some thing

    Upgrade to mk4--->When T3 maxed out items(Blue,yellow,red,green)
    Upgrade to mk5--->When T4 maxed out items(Blue,yellow,red,green)
    Upgrade to mk6--->When T5 maxed out items(Blue,yellow,red,green)

    For me mk isnt a huge difference(atleast for shooter),Except that i have a slower and sluggish ship and harder opponents against my T4 items..

    And also a most important point :--You should have upgraded items (tiers as i mentioned above) ready for your next mk ship according to increase in slots or slot point.

    For eg-->when i was near to my mk6 shooter upgrade,i had a firebomb(2 slot point) read to replace my LRM (1 slot point) due and bandage T3 Epic lvl 30 for extra blue slot,Since mk6 shooter gets one extra blue slot and 1 more red slot point.My experience would have been even more terrible if i didnt have bandage ready...

    I would advise thinking about what time in the 2 week season is best to upgrade too.
    At what point do players at your infamy tend to start rising in infamy again after the downward push of the infamy reset ends?

    Heh, I don't need to make a mini account. I'm not one of the old-time players. My very first experience with Battle Bay was the current new player experience and it is horrific. I could go into exactly why that's happening but for now, let's just leave it at the fact that whether or not match making is a disaster at lower levels, higher mark ships make it more of a disaster.

    Honestly, the best way to handle <1500 infamy is to ignore it and just grind through it.

    Only vaguely.

    "Seal clubbing" (also known as "tanking") is the act of forcing your infamy artificially low so that you get easier matches. In case you hadn't noticed, this happens A LOT in Battle Bay. In a misguided effort to stop that, Rovio just put a rule in place. The details are vague, but it goes something like this.

    If you're infamy ever falls more than 800 off your life time high then they figure you must be seal clubbing. So you are matched at the top of your infamy and you get no stars or other battle rewards until win enough (at the top of your infamy) to climb back up out of that hole.

    So basically, I look at my career high (2425) and my available window of play is 1625 - 2425. If I go below 1625, then I uninstall the game because that penalty is too harsh to want to screw around with... particularly if I wasn't guilty of the crime. This is why I am VERY careful about trying new boats, new weapons, or new anything now that I'm at higher infamy. Natural infamy fluctuations account for 550 out of that 800 point window. I'm being pushed to my very limits and I've got a total 250 infamy points to work with. This is also why you see lots of higher level players upgrading from M5 to M6 and then plummeting in infamy (harder matches) and then getting nailed by the seal clubbing penalty.

    Grrrrr... and in writing this I just realized that all the effort I've gone to save gear has been utterly wasted. In most games I like to play around with builds. Frequently I invent brand new metas and sometimes I even get game-breaking ones. I like to experiment with math and stuff. But that'll never happen in this game... it can't happen. I'd need a mini-account for every single experiment I wanted to try and I'd need to level that account up to M5 or so to see the experiment unfold.
