Defender ,, gear lupe and rudder!!!!!

    Again i am saying it's not worth using them both at all ,, and i think defenders should be able to

    Rudder and Gear Lube are both fantastic items, it is the incomparable shields that are the reason people are so against using these items. Shields tend to make a huge impact on one's play because of the overwhelming power of weapons. While I think using a rudder or gear lube is still viable, it only is so usually after Mk6 for most ships. Turbos and Shields (at least 1 for most ships) are mandatory. Every ship needs an hp and speed buff and these shields and turbos need to not make such a massive impact so players can reasonably pick alternatives.

    Also, dude, every ship is bad at something. You have to make sacrifices if you need attention to other specs.

    Defender has a vital issue ,, other than that its slow and easy to hit ( which should be enough) , it needs the skill factor , and thats hard to achieve without using both the gear lupe and the rudder

    You won' break 5k using rudder and lube in spot of 2 shields.

    Too many big hitters in nitemare to survive long enough.

    Maybe one of these items in replace of bandage. But reality. U won't then go higher than 5.2k.

    The tankiness factor will be completely gone.

    Remember with lube. Enforcers still aim and shoot faster than u.

    And with rudder. Speeders and enforcers still turn faster than u.

    They are wasted items.

    Maybe a few defenders should try running a tier 5 gear lube and a tier 5 rudder for a season or two before saying it's useless. Most defenders have the habit of playing with shields hence play style is slightly different. There would a period of time which the defenders will need to get acclimatized to the new play style . Without a serious data point let's day 100+ matches it's difficult to say that both the blue items are useless on the basis of 10 matches. There will always be a time where adjustments have to be made to play style of the ships. Each ship whether it's speeder , fixer or others have made the changes to their respective play style after certain nerfs. I refuse to believe that a tier 5 gear lube or rudder is useless on a defender. Else don't you think the devs would have removed or buffed the item

    I agree with everything except the part that enforcers and speeders still turn faster than u. That's definitely not right. They don't run lube or rudder, if you run a good lube or rudder u can turn faster than them. And substitute one lube or rudder for a bandage doesn't take away the tankiness as much as u would think. In my opinion, u can still climb high if u just run 1 of these granted u are mk6+. Any more and Jaws is right, too much HP sacrifice

    Yeah, but are are arguing that defenders should be able to utilize both in 1 slot. I am saying that they can utilize one in place of a bandage. Asking for them to be combined would be an indirect buff to other boats. What we really need to figure out is do defenders really need both rudder and lube? No boat is perfect. If you run a big shield, 2 standard shields, a turbo and lube, u can still be very tank and now u can hit all hard to hit targets. If you run a rudder u can still somewhat hit ur targets easier and Dodge torps, u don't want to turn in that direction? Well u cant have the best of everything man.

    Who else here agrees? You can't have the best of everything.

    U think if defenders can use both it would become the best ship !!!! ,, simply won't happen ,,, because its a slow ship , the effect won't be that huge unlike with yellow ships.
    And u don't need to combine them ,, just increase the hp and decrease the agility of the ship and of the turret more . It's more of a balancing suggestion.

    I'm totally with you on the defender needing a buff, but there's really no need to run both a gear lube and a rudder, and if you want both that badly, you're going to have to sacrifice some hp for it. That's just the nature of sharing those slots with shields. I mean, I'd run a gear lube and rudder on my shooter or speeder if it was that easy, but we all have to make these crucial decisions. You don't know how many people have told me to drop my rudder for a bandage (on my speeder, albeit, but still applies).

    Defender already has weak point ,, its slow and easy to hit. And i am not suggesting a buff only i am also suggesting decreasing the agility of the ship and the turret.

    ...this would be a nerf? Anyway, every ship has their weak points. Every ship also has their strong points, defender's being the most hp of all. I do, however, think they are too easy to hit, as their hitboxes are clearly larger than their actual ships. It's far too easy to shoot a defender, which makes most of their hp go to waste.

    There is a very simple solution to your problem, mate. Use the darn items. Who cares if you have to sacrifice whatever for it? You're suppose to go into battle with a different strategy to maximize the use of those items.

    Rudder & Lube != Standard & Big Shields
    Agility & handling != Vitality & tankiness

    If you want to be the tankiest of tanks then stop worrying about it. But if you really want to be a mobile fortress then take somethings off and deal.

    It's ok to be slow of you play accordingly. And speeders routinely fight without having much health. You can't be the fastest, most agile, and tankiest guy in the game. You can only pick 2.


    Edit: You can't list yourself as one of the people that care about the sacrifices you have to make.

    hmm you guys are basically arguing about my build. I posted a couple videos here and there if you look at my past posts in profile. Right now I'm around 3800 MK6 w/9882 gear score. RT5 rudder and ET5 lube. Not trying to say the build is perfect but I could be higher infamy if I ever fleeted which I currently don't. The one thing I can say is that personally for me the build is more fun to play. With the right weapons you can at east compete in every situation.

    Yeah but I consider rudder and standard shield basically a wash. Between the torps/mortars/etc I avoid and the ships I kill before they can damage me more.
