    Hi everyone,

New season just started. As always, immediate losing streak kicks in. Is it just me? Does it only affect f2p? By now I fully expect to regain all of my infamy by end of season, but the predictability is off-putting and I will stop playing for a week or so. I could be playing badly, but in general, I notice a lot more disorder and randomness from my teams as opposed to just before the season end.

I never understood the incentive for people to tank infamy at the start of a season, can someone explain? I know the devs have addressed this with the 'fair play' rules but not sure how much it helps.

Are you close to Nightmare? If so, what you are experiencing is (sadly) the norm, not that the devs want it, it's a result of the Nightmare players gaining infamy. For every +24 they get, someone has to lose 24 infamy. New players and bots generate infamy, which is then taken up the leagues and disposed of at the season reset.
Sorry if I don't make sense, that's the best I could explain.

I just got into Ace 1 so not really near Nightmare. I'm still MK5 so it will take me a long time...

That's interesting though, I never thought about infamy as a zero-sum pool before. If it's true, that is unfortunate and ought to be addressed. I am inclined to just not play for a week at the start of every new season. I might even climb faster...

a slight misbalance in infamy for a while is created when at the start of the season all the nightmares get reset to 4k.
Imagine all those above 4k, and 5k (not that many) getting reset to 4k. Obviously this will lead to a downward shift of infamy as because the nightmares were above, rest leagues were above too, and after reset rest leagues (such as ace 1) almost come close to face nightmares. They will tend to eventually regain their lost infamies above 4k over the season, and so mostly ace league players (div 1 in particular) and also some nightmares experience some infamy drop.
But its natural provided the 4k reset takes place, and that you can regain normalcy slowly as the season approaches its end.
Though it was done for infamy tanking, the reset idea still doesn't strike me because the other league players aren't reset. The only way the infamy wave is going right now is because i believe new players create more infamy to be gained, which are mostly extracted from the top. And maybe thats one reason why the newbies have some first hand unpleasant experiences regarding infamy.

Yes, it's far beyond time they move the nightmare reset. They are causing this cluster with majority of ships now becoming mk6. The bar should have been advanced to 4500 over a month ago, possibly higher. With global being nearly a year now... It will continue to get even worse. To move the reset up would even give the lower infamy more breathing room

But then you won't steal someone's kill to sink Diet Coke, YSL, Grey Storm while you're just 3k infamy points :D:D:D

Matchmaking is usually at it's worst at the beginning of the season. This is maybe due to the reset at 4k infamy, and people are clumped together. This includes all players, F2P and P2P are both affected. Just make sure you win once, to stay in nightmare.

Following on from another thread about this, it got me thinking. If new players stopped entering the game, what would happen?
Obviously the game would lose a lot of infamy every week when nightmare resets. Would this eventually result in the average infamy decreasing over time?
It’s almost like the infamy system is one great big ponzi/ pyramid scheme which is reliant on those new members to keep joining.
Also, if the game was very successful and the number of players joining increases, would this result in higher average infamy levels?

Why not make the winners gain 0.1 more infamy than what the other team loses?
That would make things slightly better

Well, this was news to me, and explains a lot as to the necessity of dropping in infamy at the beginning of each season. Still, it doesn't seem like the most elegant solution...I used to get rather upset at tanking 800 points (due to getting angry at losing, then trying to 'make it up,' which just feeds the cycle), but now it just seems kind of stupid. Why play at all during this adjustment period, while the nightmare players fight it out?

It still doesn't explain though, why players at my similar infamy would suddenly start playing like they don't want to win: 'suiciding,' not focus-firing, not listening to commands from highest player, etc. Perhaps they already figured out this system and just want the infamy drop to happen as soon as possible so they can start winning again...which seems pretty broken once again.

Most players in your infamy range are newbies and dont have that much idea how to play efficiently. With time they get better, well some do some do not.
You progress as your gear and crew gets better, along with some thingie called skills, so it is obvious you'll take some time to gear up in the infamy ladder. (we all took lots of time) you have to be patient, as well as stop bothering about infamy, and you'll see it coming with time as you keep developing.
