Anyone else notice how utterly impossible it is to level up anymore? Mid 30's, with the low amounts of xp you get from training and super low amounts of xp from battles, the only way it seems to level up is to spend $$$. This game is just making the obvious differences between paid and free accounts more and more obvious now. And if you want to level up items and train, you can forget about it. Just seems like the game is trying to push out the established players who can't spend thousands of dollars on this game.

Simply not true - you just have to keep playing and you WILL progress. My level is 41 and I'm still able to get a level up every 7 crew upgrades or so, which usually doesn't take more than 3 weeks if I'm able to farm enough sugar during the training. For this reason I have never felt even the smallest need to use any of my pearls for crew training.

Time. If you want to be maxed out and have nothing to upgrade, spend the money, but I bet you’ll get bored fast. Just enjoy the grind or quit.

I kinda feel there are more important problems than leveling. I just know that sugar and gold are in abundance at some levels but highly lacking at others

I'm level 40 and don't spend pearls to level. If you manage your sugar so that you don't have gaps between trainings, you progress just fine.

Honesty I felt the same until you get your crew all past level 20 then you get like 6-8k per crew train + all the exp from earning stars so I’ve gone from 35-37 this month. I play less than 150 battles a week so that’s a little over an hour and a half a day.

bullshit - 50,000 xp to level up, even with crew training giving 10,000 xp, and 4 days each, that would be about 3 weeks to go up one level, assuming you are playing for at least 30 minutes a day at least. The mathematical fact is that Rovio has been finding new ways to get more money from us, while frustrating everyone else who cant pay 500$ for legendaries.

No it's not at all. 3-4 high level crew tranings and you would level up. Now its 4-5 plus you have to battle to get xp. Go back and look at the progression before they screwed over the free players, yet again, it was much easier to level up, and not have to play ships above your level up damn game.

Im sorry you fee this way but I’ve literally taken a week off from the game and I’m almost level 40 lol and it’s been a month..... so I’ve leveled up 3 times since February 25th...... all you have to do is have the sugar constantly ready so you constantly training and this takes time, if your not willing to put in the time then you spend as you see fitting..... edit: plus all the do you get from play adds up.... at the time it may not seem like a lot but when it takes about 60-80 battles to get a million sugar and if you get one star a game you got 1200-1600 xp + the crew training....

You clearly have a problem with investing time into the game. Yes if you lack the patience required to complete long training periods to lvl, then just buy VIP to reduce it by 20% or use pearls. Personally myself I use VIP. I never buy pearls but I earn enough at the end of each week to speed up 24hrs if I wanted. Right now I have 12hrs left of training for a 5500xp training but I choose to patiently wait for it to finish tonight at 8pm PST. That saves me my 350 pearls. I’m currently lvl35 and I don’t have an issue at all with the 42k-60k Xp progression all the way to lvl 40 from here. Waiting patiently for higher level gameplay is much more rewarding in the end. It wouldn’t be very fun if everyone got Mk7’s OverNight.

This may be a speeder thing but I'm not particularly worried about "leveling up" -- either my gear or my crew training. I've reached the place at level 34 where I don't think any new gear I'm likely to get is going to change the picture all that much. If I replaced my R40 guns with L10 ones I'd be doing what... 30% or so more damage? I just don't see how that is going to impact actual performance all that much. What makes me go up in infamy is better positioning, awareness, and overall driving of my speeder.

Per Miika, I'm already running in top 1% so it's not like I'm facing easy matches that I just need to "git gudder" on. No, these are tough matches. But still, I don't really think better gear is going to help me that much.

The jump from Mk5 to Mk6 for Speeder/Enforcer is drastic. Adding a bandage/tesla shield for speeder and swapping small shield for big shield for Enforcer (plus double tesla shields if that's what you're into). Mk6 isn't going to make you immediately godly, but it is definitely an improvement.

So all of your items are maxed out too, no other weapons/ boosts/ healing you're upgrading at all? Am I the only person spending over 1 million plus sugar upgrading weapons and items? Oh I see, you're saying if I never upgrade, and just pointlessly battle against higher level ships, so I can get 20k (AT MOST!) sugar. Okay, so an upgrade for me is around 1,200,000. So we say at least 60 matches. And that's me really trying, getting 3 stars and 3-4 kills every single match. Sure, piece of cake. And the average match lasts about 3.5 minutes, so it would only take you about 210 minutes, but you need to watch videos to get the bonus, for all 60 matches, and ads take what, 15 seconds on average? (some take 30, but in the spirit of being optimistic, ill make it seem like less) so add 15 more minutes. And for this scenario, imagine those days where for 2 days straight, you only get gold from quests. (sure, sometimes you only get sugar, when you need gold too). With all this, If I could play like a God every game, it would take only 235 minutes, assuming there was never any extra time in between anything. So now I can start my training - which will take me 4 days to finish and net me around 10k exp, towards my 50k exp level up. Now during that time I can play more and then use any sugar/gold to level up and start saving for sugar when its due. I'm not asking "Is it time consuming to level up without spending money?" because everyone in this world knows that's a yes. I was trying to reach out to veteran players, free to play players(mostly free anyway), to see if anyone else had noticed that it required much more effort to level up than before.
It's like distracting us with candy, while they put up a pay wall, and everyone won't stop talking about the damn candy. Is the exp nice from battling? Kinda/sometimes, definitely not when you lose and get 0 stars after a 4 minute match. It just sucks to have them say "wow, we care so much about things, now you can earn xp to level up" but its really making it harder to, unless you pay, or have VIP. That's my point, just sad to see a game get greedier, and not offer value to the players in return.

Don't get me wrong. I think gear is good. But honestly all those things you mentioned will increase my lifespan in enemy fire by what.... 5 seconds? When I die it's because I'm in the wrong place at the wrong time and I tend to go down very quickly. Making it "almost very quickly" doesn't seem like it's going to change as much as "not dying at all." :)

This game is all about numbers, percentages, hit points and numbers. Did I say numbers? Do you think that perks and better items won't help you win more matches or get more stars? Then you are living in a fantasy world. What about a level 10 legendary anything, vs a level 50 rare - 30% more damage on weapons for every freaking shot ever!!!! How can you say you don't see how 30% more damage, or having 30% more health will not help??

What infamy are you? Skill is definitely valuable. But at a certain point the skill of everyone you play with gets closer and closer and then the only difference is the gear.
