Okay, so I've read quite a few threads about people dropping infamy massively after upgrading to Mk6, and most people say that the solution is to hold off on upgrading to Mk6 until you have the proper gear, but I can't possibly believe that it's good practice for ANY game to try to dissuade forward progression.

Solution? Let us use the earlier Mk ships we owned. If we have a Mk6 speeder, let us use all the earlier ones, too, or at least just the one before. I really want to try the Mk6 speeder when I get to level 40, even if it'll kill me, but I don't want it to be permanent if it'll kill my infamy. It'd be nice to try it out and switch back to Mk5 if I get destroyed, rather than having to switch boats entirely.

World of Warships has a similar system. You have a tech tree that let's you buy new ships in higher tiers, and the matchmaking is based on the ships' tiers. You could buy a higher tier ship and realise that the people playing with those ships are too skilled for your level. At that point, you simply go back to another lower tier ship you own and practice until you're ready to go back to your new ship.

This would also make custom games more balanced when playing with lower level friends.

I would also like to be able to use lower tier ships for custom games.

ha, yea for some reason all ships get slower as they are upgraded.. slower speed, slower turning, slower turrets. First game I've ever seen that in an "upgrade".

Bigger boat needs more upgrades to compete when it comes to movement. Mk1 ships are tiny!
