Another idea, might be to have some kind of ‘crit resistance’, similar to Tesla Bolt resistance.

Shooters seem to think it’s unfair being stunned repeatedly. Maybe it should work both ways, so that if you pick up a crit from a certain weapon, you get an immunity, which means you can’t be critted by that weapon again for 10 seconds (which, in fairness, is shorter than the sniper’s cooldown).

That would keep a lot of stuff the same, but would prevent ships from being instantly vaporised by a bunch of lucky crits in row. It would also limit the effectiveness (abuse) by people running 2 or more snipers together, which might encourage more variety.

The downside is, this would also hurt other weapons, which (unlike sniper) don’t need a nerf. For example, a Defender running double standard cannons with crit perks. But that’s quite a niche build, compared to multiple sniper spammers in every game, so I think the benefits would outweigh the costs.

It’s also not ideal, because one huge crit is often bad enough, but at least it would put a bit of a cap on how much damage one ship needs to take in a short space of time.

This is a very good fix, and I think many sniper cannon users will agree. Visual on this must be visible at range, red arcing, maybe?
