OK, I'm closing in on master league again and debating whether I want to do that or not. Before I make a decision, am I correct in saying that if it turns out to be a poor choice, it'll be undone again at the season end? My infamy, league, and tanking are all going to get reset? If so, that's a huge relief.

Yes, you can go back after the league ends. But you shouldn't have to worry about progression. If you're on a losing streak, then just stop playing for a while and/or change ships. If you're mk 5, then you should definitely get as much infamy as you can.

In my experience, leagues don't affect anything other than rewards. So just progress at a natural rate. :)

Fair enough on the leagues. But infamy is everything and I've had more than enough experience with this matchmaking system and it promoting me to ridiculously high levels of infamy for my gear. I've read more than enough stories of players then being punished with the "tanking zone". So far I've been avoiding both situations by managing my infamy carefully.

But last time I was in a M3. This time it's a somewhat mature M4. And last time I thought any infamy and corresponding tanking zone were permanent... pegged off my lifetime high infamy mark.

I'm going to assume you leveled up some time ago? At least in the lower infamies and in the current state the infamy/matchmaking/tanking system is pretty thoroughly broken. It's already starting to look like a sea of M5's and me and that's only at 1000 infamy. By 1100 that is becoming commonplace and the M5's are better geared. By 1300 I fully expect to be all alone as an M4 facing a squad of fully mature M5's. Then my rewards will collapse so at the very moment I need it most progression slows down. That's already happening too. Finally, if I let it carry me too far on a bubble I'll end up in the tanking zone. No, things are not working well right now.

    I'm a mid-grade M4... my gear is pretty much rare-25.

If you think that's good, then don't level up :)

... which involves tanking which is both against the rules and very distasteful to me. Hence my question. If any mistakes are erased at season end then it isn't that big of a deal.

Well OK. Here is the moment. I'm at 1217 infamy and I either push or tank. The guys above me have 6 & 7 levels on me (as does most of the next 10 below me). I'll put the game away for a while and see if I can get an answer to my question before I push into Master or abandon it for calmer waters.

It resets your league every season.

Hmmmm... I obviously didn't ask this question clearly but I think I don't care any more.

I'm going to assume I get a clean slate in terms of infamy max, tanking zone min, and league every season. So this time I'm going to push if I'm able and as far as I can. If I end up getting screwed by that assumption I can always find a similar game and go play that.

I'm enjoying just playing this game too much to tank any more. I had nearly forgotten how fun this game is when you just focus on getting better and winning. If that's not feasible in this game then I need to find another, better designed one.
