    Its because he is fleeting.
My guild mate said they couldnt fleet with another member this week as there is a defined limit of min / max infamy to avoid unbalanced matchmaking.
Guess that limit never triggered here or my guild mate was talking rubbish!

The mk6 is tanking, and one of anti-tanking measures is you get matched as if you have your highest infamy. Look at his infamy, he has 1272, but his highest was somewhere in Ace, so he gets put in an Ace battle.
No he wasn't, 800 infamy is the maximum difference, and the fleet is 1272 and 982, but they got put in an Ace match because of the fore-mentioned anti-tanking measures.

I think this is actually something that needs fixing.

What happened here is he’s fleeting with a low infamy mk6. Even though the mk6 ship is 1270, the game treats all mk6s as having at least 2500 for the purposes of matchmaking.

It should really do the same thing for the purposes of fleeting, but it doesn’t, so the mk6 is able to drag a poor 900 infamy speeder into a 2500 game.

Both ships are classed as having the same infamy as the top ship when fleeted.

I do agree with that, tankers shouldn't be able to fleet with people below them.
    I don't think so... I believe he's tanking.
    True.

Well admittedly, I’m not 100% sure how it works. But I know that since they tweaked matchmaking, a lot of mk6s were complaining about getting put into much higher matches.

Then when I went over 2.5k I suddenly got loads of low infamy mk6s in my games, while I don’t remember seeing any below that.

They can’t all be tanking... ???

They may not be. What if they are just in an M6 and never climbed all that high in infamy? I mean sheez, one of the things that astonished me when I started was seeing level 28 people in my guild with an infamy max of 650. I had to realize that for a lot of people this is a casual game. If you take away any real sense of strategy, tactics, and teamwork how high would you expect a M6 to go? I think this is also why I run into a lot of M5's at 800 infamy.
