I played for 5 solid hours today, ~45 games (with a VIP subscription), and all I’ve got to show for it now is 488k sugar. How is it possible that you can’t fill up your sugar in five hours? It’s not even half full.

I’ve been wanting to advance Bhurt for months now, but I never have anywhere even close to enough sugar (1 million).

I’m honestly getting really bored with this. 5 hours per day is way longer than anyone should need to play a game for, it’s like a full time job. Yet it’s still, apparently, not enough to stay on top of training and upgrades, even when you’re also throwing money at it.

@The Otherguy @CaffeinatedChris @TheAntiSnipe please could you raise this with the devs, and ask them to consider whether sugar rewards are scaling properly?

Are you spending sugar on items at all? I can't speak to the progression and scaling levels, but I'm much in the same boat with training costs over 1m. If I want to keep training going non-stop, I basically have to skip item upgrades until I've amassed enough sugar.

Actually, I farm a million sugar every three days, because I'm training a lot of heavy crew. Bhurt 21, just completed Burnice t4 evo, and stuff. Missions are great. I get 154k sugar a mission, if it's something major, like kill 5 ships with flare. Gold is more rare for me, imo. I guess it's just me, but still... I'll ask.

@CaffeinatedChris Bhurt is certainly my most expensive, but even some of my cheaper ones are 600k - 800k now. And I can only usually afford to train the ones I don’t use, like felix, but he is also 470k now for his next level, which would be all of today’s sugar.

I have been upgrading items, but I’ve realised I’m going to need to stop if I want any hope of advancing my crew. That’s actually quite annoying because my inventory (60 slots) is already full of stuff that I’m waiting to combine, so having to purposely skip upgrades just exacerbates that. And it’s not like it’s ever going to end... the crew will just get more expensive.

@TheAntiSnipe how many games are you playing per day to fill up to 1 million?

By my reckoning I play about a game every 6 minutes, which I guess is game time + poking around in the shop, replays etc...

So an hour a day one the game (which is quite a lot) would be ~10 games per day. Do you think you could fill up to 1 million playing 10 games per day?

I, for now, grind in matches, meaning I try, not to win, but to inflict a ton of damage. My matches usually go 5-0 or 0-5. Meaning that I'm not trying for a season top. Matches thus go for about 2:30. So I can grind a lot in an hour. Also, I'm on my holiday, so I can play for more than that.

The grind is hard and full of tankers. Lol.

The way contribution is measured could certainly be a component. I rarely get many stars nowadays. Even for my pentakill I only got two stars! (ergh!).

I think I average about 15k sugar, usually, for a win (though I only got 10.9k for one of my wins today). And maybe 5K sugar for a loss. So I guess it would take me about 100 games to grind a million sugar. Which at 6 mins per game would be 10 hours of play.

My current crew training lasts for about 40 hours (let’s call that 2 days). So to fill up my sugar before it ends would require 5 hours of play per day (which is exactly where I’m at).

Quests would make it faster, but then item levelling makes it slower, so it’s probably fair to say they cancel each other out.

5 hours per day is an unreasonable amount of time to expect someone with a job to be able to put in. Maybe that’s the idea, to pressure f2p into paying, but I’m not f2p. I’m a paying subscriber. Where am I (reasonably) supposed to find 5 hours per day for a phone game?

Yep. Basically I have to forget about leveling my items until I hit the sugar cap if I'm trying to train up something big.

Inconvenient truth - At higher levels, you'll pretty much have to grind like a Korean MMO or pay up real cash money to accelerate progress. If I want to evolve items (at 170K+ a shot) and keep up with training, I'd have to lay out actual money for pearls to buy the sugar refills. I choose to flip between them; I ground out a few captain levels to get to an evolution unlock, then I let it sit despite what that nagging tooltip says "You're not training anyone! Fix that!" - no, you can wait while I put some resources into items. It's a balance, and unless you're willing to put a bag of money on the scale, you can only swing between them.

Of course, there is a third option, which is to give up and play something else...

Without wanting to sound salty, it does genuinely sap my will to continue playing, when those are the only two options for progression.

Holy smokes. What kind of battery do you have to play 5 solid hours? Even at half resolution, I only play 2 before I have to charge.

Can't say I blame you. As Reggie of Nintendo says, and I've linked before: "If it's not fun, why bother?"

I've commented on this before. I reroll EVERY quest that lands on gold to keep my sugar running. I am just able to keep training going but have no excess for leveling weapons. So the game wants you to choose which is unfortunate. If players want to play more it really does not quicken leveling. Some reason Rovio wants you to only play a little each day.

Quest gives a good amount, its battles that give so little.

The player that returns to play a little each day never "burns out" on the game, and thus remains a player longer.

Lol i spent so long taking Bhurt to tier 4 evolution due to how much sugar it cost and now because i did mostly sugar quests, now i have no gold to get to my mk4speeder to mk5 lol.
What I tell u is that u can play hours and still not do it, it takes me days to save up sugar and Im pretty sure the AntiSnipe does not try to fill up to 1 mil because he would spend half a day doing it.
Battle rewards sugar is so small i dont even bother to add it when calculating when i will be able to upgrade. U just have to keep on questing for sugar.

wtf Lol i think my burnice is still at tier 1...
but seriously I also ave a lack of sugar.. so much though that I dont even bother with any of the last crew men... its only the top4 and brock for me....
actually 90 percent of the time i dont train....
Upgrading itself is pissing as tier 4 means 400k gold ( I sold a perk) then 150k per level for 13 more damage.
Now I have not many perks as I sold them for gold.:mad::mad:

Your right though, it seems that it was a lot easier to get sugar (even over flowing sugar storage) before the update, or the one before that. Finding it a lot harder & taking a lot longer to upgrade anything now.

There is a point in the low 20's where it's impossible to generate enough sugar to keep training... it's a game imbalance. Later in the game when it takes 3-4 days for each training session, it's plenty of time to replenish sugar AND use it for weapon upgrades.

I've always thought sugar stores are FAR too small... no way to build up for a proper training and leveling up bindge.

Also to note, one of the drawbacks of VIP is that training is 20% faster, which exacerbates the sugar shortage... and I'm not even sure the automatic 50% rewards balance it out. Keep that in mind if you are using VIP and starving for sugar.

    I’m level 33.

I don’t think the problem is with storage capacity or training time, it’s with accumulation. I could easily burn through all my sugar, all the time, just levelling items.

Items are so expensive now, even one upgrade will dash any hope of levelling up a decent crew member.

Try to be a better player. The more you contribut in the match the bigger the reward. Also as you move up in the leagues the rewards get bigger. I'm in ACE league and for a win I get 35k gold 25k sugar, for a loss I get 14k gold 9k sugar.

yeah that's why i dropped WOW back in the day at level 40+ (idr exactly)... it got to a point where it felt like i was working a second job., and i realized that if i wanted to work a second job, I wouldn't be playing a game instead.
