Railgun and buzzkill...

As of ace 1 league I see many using rail guns of minimum t4 rare or epic. Their damage is like so much. So I do want to know about the training tree and talents and the damage of railgun. So anyone who is having a good railgun can post the photo and give any good tips to use it. Hoping lots of suggession

 

Okay so here I have lvl 50 epic railgun stats for you. Currently, I have lvl 28 Dr. Buzzkill so I have all damage talents included from him but not the last cooldown talent. So, the maximum potential damage for this beauty? As you can see, I still need one more epic damage perk, that would add +3 % to the damage. Additionally I could have total +22 % more damage from other crew talents I have not unlocked yet, so that would be total +25 % damage on top of that 2408 = 3010 damage is the maximum. Now, don't get over excited; even if railgun has the highest damage per shot, it is extremely hard to use. Even if I have regularly played with railgun for more than a year now, I still miss a big number of my shots because of waves etc.. You have to keep distance to avoid the damage % reduction but that greatly increases the difficulty at the same time. So it takes a lot of skill (and luck) to get use of the full potential of this weapon.

No one seems to use Railgun Cooldown perks?

 

It's not surprising when you compare the two epic perks, +8 % damage and -4 % cooldown. DPS is much higher if you use damage perks.

 

So this damage is without crew bonus or with bonus

 

This damage is with partial crew bonus but not the highest possible. Railgun gains damage from many different crew members, not only Dr. Buzzkill. Many top level crew talents such as lvl 30 Bhurt or Brock can still increase the damage significantly.

 

Yup it is a darn heavy weapon.
as in their description, they are and should be the highest damage doing 'point' weapon, though big torp and mines outpower them (they are not point damage weapons though, area damage)
Now coming to rail tips :
1. As reload is super duper long, try to hit every shot.
2. Try to hit at a min of 80% shot effect distance. The more the merrier damage, i've observed you can always exceed your max damage if you hit good above 100% range. The damage increase depends on your railgun. For my rare t4 i got 1.5k+ shots while its max damage 1382, and for my epic t3 i got 1.7k+ while its max is 1522.
3. Rail has a considerably low wave projectile path, unlike explo and other cannons, so hit it a bit above when hitting enemies above you by waves.
4. After this still, missing rail shots is common at far-off distances when the target lock crosshair is green but the very next moment, it will hit the waves. So you have to fire just before the ship turns up at sight from a wave or slightly before the mark turns green to get a hit. This'll require a bit'o timing but comes with practice. And this is particulary required for high wave maps such as subzero.
Tips for damage increase :
1. Use all damage increase perks.
2. Use complimentary damage adding weapons or weapons with perks such as damage increase to all weapons fitted by 1.5% perk.
This if used on your shooter, considering the rest 4 weapons apart from rail have 4 of these perks fitted on each four, will give an enormous 4(4*1.5)=24% boost to your railgun. (Not considering the rail's perks)
3. Get talents of point damage weapon increase and all weapon damage increase from various crew members apart from buzzkill oriented railgun talents.

I wield dual rails sometimes to get good damage (if i hit both well) and also dream about using a 4 railgun setup on my coming mk6 shooter someday.

Wouldn't that +25% apply to the base damage though? Not the 2408, so I think it'd come to around 2700-2800.

 

what you see in my photo it´s maxed railgun with all the talents, can´t be stronger. Shooters can wait 20s because have 4 more weapons...so the idea it´s max damage.

pd can be stronger if you combine with other weapon like rockets with dmg for all weapons perks
