I started playing Battle Bay about a week ago and I love it so far. I know there are quite a few different ships out to choose from; but right now I'm going back and forth between Shooter and Fixer. In games like this where there are different classes, I know it's a good idea to find what you love to play and focus only on that, at least while you're still a beginner. I've always simply enjoyed support classes, so thats why Fixer first caught my eye. However I have other reasons to play Shooter, too.
-I seem to be able to carry my team a lot when playing Shooter, ending up with an average kills per game of 2.5. I think I'm currently more useful to my team whilst playing shooter, and that's what I want to do. However, Fixer can be extremely useful too, if played right I know. I'm generally more of a support person; but I'm better at Shooter. With Fixer, I think it would be so much easier for me if I upgraded the ship to mk2 so I could get more healing slots, because I'm used to a healing class that has tons of splash healing abilities and only one ability that deals damage. The question right now is, should I upgrade Fixer to mk2 when I have the resources and level because I want to be a support ship and enjoy being a support ship overall, or stick with shooter because its generally more fun but difficult (easy to learn hard to master amirite?) and I seem to be better at it?

You might say, play what you what most, play what you have fun with most. That would definitely be Fixer, but it seems like whenever your team is losing and teammates dropping like flies due to you being way over there and only having one healing slot and that slot would be healing burst, you cant bolt heal the other dude from halfway across the map, you just cant help your team if they cant aim or stuff. This leads to me bouncing back and forth in Infamy; I'll get up to 260 inf. then bounce all the way back down to 80 in one day. I can never keep any infamy I gain, with Fixer or Shooter alone.
You just arent skilled enough at like 150 infamy to carry your team if they're all really really really bad and cant aim for their life. As fixer, whats the point of even trying to keep someone whos absolutely terrible alive? What if your entire team is absolutely terrible xD? Then your entire point is irrelevant, and you have to become a magic offense class but you're built to be a healer. ???

a side question how do you go backwards? ive tried and tried and im pretty sure its impossible at mk1. help pls

Follow what your items follow. Like if you get a rare box launcher, use it. And never scrap any epics and Rares for now. To go backwards just put the left throttle down

Don't worry about it at mk1-3, just try out a few ships that interest you. The game actually starts getting fun imo at mk4 which is a couple months in I think

    1) The great thing about being low level is that ship upgrades aren't that expensive so you can level up multiple ships without having to do much grinding...

    2) When people say to focus on one thing it is usually for weapons and items because its hard to level up multiple items at the same time(Not to mention you are probably just gonna end up scrapping them later on) so you should focus on your main weapons besides that you can upgrade ALL your ships if you want its just gonna be harder the farther you go...

In my opinion you should ignore most of your reasoning.

I'm a fairly new player and one of my observations is that below 550-ish infamy is what I call "the land of flotsam & jetsam". You find all manner of semi-random behavior and equipment on your team and there's not much to do about it. Nor are there many conclusions to draw from it. In my experience the win or loss is going to be heavily affected by factors like:
    • Did even two boats on your team or the enemy team figure out how to focus fire? If so, that team wins no matter what.
    • Did your heavy hitter end up being a floater? You lose. Tough.
    • Is anyone on your team or the enemy team able to dodge at all? If so, that's a big advantage over the "charge into the face of incoming fire" strategy that most low infamy boats employ.
    • Did someone have a set of T4 epic guns? Yeah, that's a lot of win right there.
All this stuff happens regularly sub 500 infamy and it masks the team-based nature of this game. Yes, that's particularly annoying for healers. It'll get better. When I get around 700+ infamy I start seeing real evidence of situational awareness and team-based thinking. You'll be astonished the first time your team rallies to defend you rather than putting about potting random enemies while you die :)
