New player in game

Always upgrade your main ship if possible. The only time you don't want to upgrade is from mk5 to mk6 because then you will experience worse matchmaking. Just from watching your one match... your movement skills actually aren't bad for a new player. Learn how to dance in and out of cover to land your shot and then avoid being hit. You can also practice hiding behind waves. For your weapons... go ahead and ditch the cannon. It looks nice at first due to the high DPS, but DPS is an irrelevant stat once you get more weapons on your ship. You almost always want high damage.

Mk1 with 858 infamy? You're doing extremely well, it looks like you've got a solid sense of how to play the game based on your videos, I went through to your channel and watched a couple more. (And boy, do I miss how nimble those little Mk1/2 ships are. Looks like you can turn and stop on a dime!)

As far as whether or not to upgrade your Shooter to Mk2, let's dig in.

Right now you have 3RRR and 1B - so that's letting you fit your three weapons, plus a Standard Shield.
Going to Mk2 will give you 4RRR and 2BB, as well as +150HP, +5DEF, but you'll lose some speed and agility.

Before you upgrade to Mk2, you should make sure you have another 1pt Blue item ready - I'd suggest a Turbo, personally, to offset the speed loss, and it's truly a universal item - every ship save for really tanky Defenders uses them.

Since you'll have 4RRR, do you have any 2pt Red items (weapons) in your inventory? Your Rare Cannon is quite nice, but one thing I noticed in your videos is that it's almost always ready to fire. If it's going to be ten seconds or more between shots, there's not much good in having a weapon that cools off in six or seven. Go for a harder-hitting gun (Explosive Cannon perhaps?) and compensate for the longer cooldown by cycling between it and your other two weapons.

I couldn't do 500+ at mk1, that's some good skill you have there. Stay on the forums, watch videos by Bittersteel, P0rthos, moi(yours sincerely, I'm a speeder main tho). Don't watch anyone else and it's okay, but Bittersteel is a must for a shooter main. The dude is a total badass.
