After I did an amazing job DESTROOYYYING the enemies, I though, huh, that was pretty good. Now it's time for an excellent reward because of my hard work.

ooh so many shiny badges! - 1 star.. and the enemy top player got 2 stars. IMG_5152.PNG
16K DAMAGE AND 4 KILLS! Skrr skrr IMG_5153.PNG
even more shiny badges - 0 stars.. IMG_5154.PNG
9K DAMAGE AND 3 KILLS! pop pow brr

    Enough fun, let's be real.
How can I get such minimal reward?
    - (I'm mostly thinking of the stars I didn't get)
I know I'm a bit low in infamy - could be "seal clubbing", as some probably would say. However most of the time I'm at 3300-3800 and the reward is fine there.
    - (Infamy depends on having a good wave of wins, or a wave of loss)

If your season high is 800 above your current infamy I believe that’s when you’ve hit the seal clubbing protocol. Which is what seems to be happening to you.

I think the staggering amount of 5000+ infamy whales these days calls for a higher reset than 4000.
Every new season is a nightmare, and it only gets worse every couple of weeks.
Players at 3500+ get the worst of it, and the more active you are the more you'll be punished.

Being around 3500ish infamy I can relate... If I win one, guaranteed next round I will go up against nightmare players. If I win 3 in a row, it's Nightmare unfriends vs me and a few guys around 2.9k Infamy. The range can vary as wide as 2.5k infamy vs 5k infamy..

As you climb in rank, there are fewer and fewer total players that exist who are also at those ranks.
So, when trying to match players up, if the infamy range is too restrictive, you can imagine the best few players in the world would never have their queue pop. They'd be waiting forever.
I think most players, especially as they climb really really high, are probably willing to wait a minute or two for enough similar-caliber players to queue up (we all love fair battles with worthy competitors)...
But at some point, no one wants to wait forever, they just want to play.
So, I can imagine the match-making algorithm starts pretty restrictive (a few hundred infamy), and then it periodically re-evaluates how many players it could find in range, and if it needs to find more, it opens up the range a little bit.
So maybe you (at 3500) just queued up, but the player (at 5000) has been waiting for 60+ seconds...
It's not that he instantly joined your queue because it was within a normal range...
It's more likely that you joined his queue, which had a range that was larger because it had been growing over time (whether it's minutes or seconds, I have no clue)...

    * Disclaimer: I have no idea whether this is the way this game's matchmaking works, but this is how other games' match-making algorithms are designed.
