I just got my fourth Epic Sniper Canon Critical Hit Chance perk, and immediately switched out my Rare Cannon Critical Hit Damage perk.

Now I have a 45% chance of critical hit chance, instead of 37.5%.
But I also deal less damage when I make a critical hit.

Should I keep my x3 hit chance perk
    and x1 critical damage loadout?
Or should I stick to x4 critical hit chance loadout?

Always crit chance on Snipers, as many as you have. Grind hard for that Tier V unlock on Bhurt and you'll make up the damage and then some.

Your current damage is 580, so (D = 580). Assuming an ordinary crit doubles the damage (2D), and the bigger crit doubles the damage plus 15% (2.3D), then the bigger crit will give a higher average damage.

    45% = 9/20,
    37.5% = 15/40 = 3/8

We can find the average of the 45% configuration by doing 29D / 20 = 1.45D per shot.

    For the 37.5%, we can do 11.9D / 8 = 1.4875D per shot.

    So, when D is 580...

45% chance of 100% crit (1160) gives you an average damage of 841 per shot.

37.5% chance of 115% crit (1334) gives you an average damage of 862.75 per shot.

The 37.5 is ‘technically’ better in terms of average damage. In practice, however, if you need a crit and you don’t get one, then average damage won’t mean much.

(If anyone wants to check my maths, please feel free, as I often make mistakes) :)

Assuming he has Bhurt 16 & 17 (each adding +25% crit dmg), then doesn't that make un-perk'd crits 250%, and if he has one perk for +15% crit dmg, then that's 265%?

If that is not the case, let me know (and ignore everything below).

However, if that is the case, then I calculate:
45% chance of 250% crit dmg (1450) gives average damage = 971.5 per shot
37.5% chance of 265% crit dmg (1537) gives average damage = 938.9 per shot

The difference in our calculations has everything to do with how big crits actually are, and how the extra perk % crit dmg is applied.......
    (Who can help clarify?)

That’s a good point. It also depend on how the boost is applied. Is it D * 265%, or is it 2D*165%? which would be equivalent to D*330%

If you have the 50% crit damage from bhurt already which I assume you do, then i think it's choosing 45% chance to do 1450 damage or 37.5% chance to do 1537. Given its not a massive damage difference I would much prefer the extra crit chance.

Sniper crit dmg is 250%. With rare crit dmg perk it will be 265%. Crit chance perks are always better than crit dmg ones (even rare crit chance is better than epic crit dmg one). Don't forget about situations when enemy has about 1000 hp and non crit hit will not kill him - crit dmg will be useless unlike chance one.

Can you guys please explain, how did you calculate damage per shot by percentage of its chances to hit?

Average damage per shot = (non-crit dmg * %chance to not crit) + (crit dmg * %chance to crit)
    = (580 * .55) + (1450 * .45)
    = (319) + (652.5)
= 971.5 average damage per shot (with 45% chance to crit, and no %crit dmg perks)

I just wanna say @Spinners71 calculated it correctly. I did the math myself a while ago, for lots of different combinations of perks and crew training. The result was that crit chance perks are better for every situation.
