With the longer arming range devs made sure players still have a chance to "outrun" these torps. With a frost - torp combo that's already a very hard thing, even as a speeder but if it didn't have that arming range, you could just get exactly to the nose of a ship and you couldn't miss. Why should that be possible? Torps do way more damage than cannons and other stuff but therefore they are sometimes hard to handle and it definitly needs some practice to do it right. So yeah arming range is a MUST!!

    Occupation:
    Shooting torps and cannons.
    Location:
    nowhere in particular
The red part of the aiming line is the the arming distance, and if you try to hit a ship with a torpedo while your enemy is in the red part of the line, the torpedo won't do damage, since the torpedo is not armed yet. The green part of the aiming line is where the torpedo can do damage, since it is now armed.

(Remember: red line=no damage. green line=lots of damage!)
